USRA acquires truck series

With his recent acquisition of the AllStar Race Truck Series (ARTS) Lone Star Region, Terry Dickerson (owner of the United States Racing Association) feels the USRA is now on course for a stellar 2005 racing season.

"There are a lot of people who appreciate everything Jon Garrett did for the Lone Star Region of ARTS," Dickerson said. "We commend Jon, his family and crew for what they have done for the Lone Star Region. The fact the region had several first- and second-place finishers in the national points standings documents its success."

Dickerson added, "Jon and I had several days of intense negotiations before making the deal. We agree this will take the truck series to the next level. Drivers and fans can be assured we'll focus as much on our truck series as we will our Super Late Model series."

The newly-formed USRA Truck series will run the 14 races on the tentative USRA scehedle, with Opening Night set for March 19 at Houston Motorsports Park. "We'll also run at San Antonio Speedway, Corpus Christi Motor Speedway and Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle," Dickerson continued. "And, we're in negotiations to get a truck race on the road course next year at Texas Motor Speedway. We hope to finalize the entire USRA schedule in the next 10 days."

Dickerson and his staff agree the exposure for the trucks - which will run in front of the large crowds that regularly attend the USRA Super Late Model (formerly ROMCO) races - should help the expsoure to new fans and sponsors. That will enhance the opportunity for USRA drivers to move up the "driving" ladder and into national series such as NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series and Busch Grand National Series.

"We're confident we can achieve the goals we set out to do," Dickerson expalined. "That is this: we're looking to bring new sponsorship to the series, race teams and the local race tracks. That will help make local racing more affordable for the drivers and more exciting for the fans."

Dickerson added, "As I've said many times before - if it wasn't for sponsors and race fans, NASCAR would still be racing on the beaches of Daytona."

Dickerson also announced a USRA meeting will be held for series drivers and supporters on Jan. 8 at the Holiday Inn Express in San Marcos (located at exit 204 behind Luby's) from 3:30-5:30 p.m. before the ROMCO/TSRS banquet.

"We'll pattern this meeting after the first one we had back in November," Dickerson revealed. "We'll start by making some important announcments and go over our plans, then hold an open forum for all those who attend. We'll hold it on the afternoon of our series banquet to increase everyone's opportunity to attend the meeting and give their input."

USRA drivers and supporters may also book a room at the same Holiday Inn Express for a special series rate of $69 (the price includes a continental breakfast). One may take advantage of this special rate by calling the hotel at 512-754-6621 and mention they're calling for "the USRA rate."
