hray Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Has anyone but me noticed all the sport mods for sale lately. If you search "sport mod" in the classified section, 20 results come up. 15 of those are for cars for sale of which 12 are still currently available. That plus the car counts at most tracks is a sure sign that the class is alive and well and probably deserves a look at the formula. What do you think the success formula is? And don't tell me cost, because a good sport mod is not cheap. Edited May 14, 2014 by hray Quote
chevyfan Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Well for me a 1 man team , it seems to be very easy to work on ( most of the time ) rules seem to fit most tracks dirt or asphalt , good respecting drivers helps also Quote
JUMPSTER93 Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 I have had sportmods since 2004 and I think the biggest benefit is the lack of adjustments that you can do to the cars. Sure you can have a $1000 shock package and a $8000 power plant, but every car is limited to the stock metric 4 link and stock location lower control arms. Plus the rules haven't changed much in 10 years for the tracks that follow IMCA. Quote
TheCloser Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 Hopefully those sold cars will make an appearance in a new touring series lol. Quote
hray Posted May 15, 2014 Author Report Posted May 15, 2014 Cody, You know all these dirt sport mod drivers secretly want to try asphalt. LOL Quote
BobbyJack Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 SOME OF US LLM DRIVERS HAVE DRIVEN PAVEMENT BEFORE. HMMM! Quote

Brad Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Hray, Are y'all still planning on running at cts? Quote
hray Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 Absolutely! I won't go into all the details on why it's taking so long, just not enough hours in the day. We practiced the car at CTS last Sat and it is pretty much ready except for oil leaks. Put about 50-60 laps on it and Jason and I were pretty pleased. We plan to practice 1 more time, then run on the 31st. Quote
WaerRacing00 Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 I enjoyed running the limited class...and yes they are very easy to work on but they also bend very easy...and for someone with low funds its hard to run up front with the $5000 car...then again why I left the class is bc usually after the night is over most of the class looks like they were in a demo derby! !! Lol Quote
BobbyJack Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 pavement races seem to have less damage so far Quote
TheCloser Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 24 cars, 35 laps on a tight 1/4 mile with 2 and 3 wide racing and only two cautions Quote
CC57 Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 ...except for oil leaks. ... Â Do not run in hray's line, spreadsheet updated Quote
HalfMile Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Glad you and Jason will be at the May 31st race Rusty! Quote
hray Posted May 17, 2014 Author Report Posted May 17, 2014 The oil leaks are our secret weapon!!! I've been busy with dirt cars, but Jason's been out of racing for 3 yrs (and that was a disastrous SAS race) and we figured out it's been 10 yrs since we raced at CTS. Quote
