Late Model Border War Saturday at DCRP

DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 29, 2014) – A much anticipated Outlaw Late Model return to the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park takes place this Saturday night with the opening leg of “The Border War” pitting the MARS DIRTcar Late Models versus the NCRA Late Models.

While Late Models sling the Dodge City clay for the first time in three years, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Thunder Cars will also mix it up in Saturday’s card that fires off at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday’s tilt will mark the first-ever DCRP event for the highly-competitive, Midwestern based MARS Late Models while it’s also the first time since 2010 for NCRA Late Models atop Dodge City clay.

Three-time series champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO, leads the MARS forces into town along with defending champ Terry Jackson, Jr., 2012 champion Jesse Stovall and Mod grad Ryan Gustin among others.

The MARS forces have offered up four different winners through the opening four events of the season including Riley Hickman, Phillips, Jason Feger and Bobby Pierce while Marquette, Nebraska’s Kyle Berck holds the early NCRA points lead after winning the April 19 season opener at Hutchinson.

Mike Wadel, Jeff Kaup and Cody Davis lead the way in track championship chase action into Saturday’s card.

Garden City’s Wadel has posted a pair of top-fives to jump into the early IMCA Modified points lead by just 6 markers over Ryan Heger as only 12 points separate the top five that also includes defending track champ Austin Allen, Nick Link and Cole Traugott.

A runner-up finish and then a victory has Woodward, Oklahoma’s Jeff Kaup off to a strong defense of his IMCA Sport Modified title with a 25-point advantage over Randle McRoberts with 2012 champion Bart Baker, Toby Witthuhn and Jason Lunow also among the top five.

Gunning for a third win in a row in the Thunder Car ranks, Bucklin’s Cody Davis is out to an early 20-point edge over defending champ Dustin Walker with William Bauer, Matt O’Hair and Tobby Schield filling out the top five.

Tickets to Saturday’s MARS vs. NCRA Late Model Border War event at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Season passes are available for all 13 nights of DCRP competition (excluding the World of Outlaws Boothill Showdown in July) for just $140. Contact the track at 620-225-3277 for Season Passes.
