Snowball
Qualifying format for 37th Annual Snowball Derby ®Revised A change in the qualifying format for the Snowball Derby® will lock in the top 30 drivers for this year’s 37th edition on Dec. 5 at Five Flags Speedway. In the previous format, the top 20 drivers were locked in after qualifying. The rest were determined after second-round qualifying, a last-chance race and provisionals. The track officials have eliminated second-round qualifying. After the fastest 30 drivers make the field in qualifying on Dec. 3, the final positions will be filled from the last-chance race on Dec. 4 and provisionals. "We wanted to ease up the Saturday schedule because it will alleviate the pressure of drivers trying to qualify for both races (including Saturday’s Snowflake 100)," said track promoter Tim Bryant. "It will also save drivers money for extra tires." Through Dec. 17, 52 drivers have entered the Snowball Derby®, while 41 have signed up to race in the Snowflake 100. Practice and racing starts Thursday, Dec. 2. Tickets are on sale now, Contact the track at 944-8400.
