DIRT LATE MODEL NEWS & NOTES:

 

GRT Race Cars, Inc. founder and owner Joe Garrison announced that CLINT SMITH, of Senoia, Georgia, will be aboard a GRT chassis next year on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series circuit. Clint will once again be a "Dirty Dozen" member in 2005 and will be looking to improve on his tenth place points finish that he posted this season.

 

JOEY DANIEL of Liberty, KY become only the second driver to win two Late Model track championships at Bluegrass Speedway in the ten year history of the ½ mile Nelson County oval, previously winning the Late Model track championship back in 2001.

 

SHANNON BABB of Moweaqua, IL is the very first NARA DirtCar Series champion. Babb was the dominate force on the series this year winning three of the eight races ran including two that were taped for broadcast on ESPN2 (Bluegrass and Dixie). Babb drove a C.J. Rayburn Chassis owned by Arkansas Motors with sponsorship from Jay Dickens Racing Engines, Car City, J&J Steel, Watters Auto Land, Platinum Motors and RV, Hoosier Racing Tires, Performance Rod and Custom, Rapture Racing Carburetors and Wicks Racing Products.

 

Over the past two seasons Penn Can Speedway has partnered with Bernheisel Race Components of Jonestown, Pennsylvania to provide a great contingency program awarding the winner of the Penn Can late model championship a special BRC Lazer chassis package. This year after a season long battle JOE DOMIANO of Old Forge, Pennsylvania came home the winner of the Penn Can late model championship making him the winner of the BRC Lazer chassis package.

 

For 3 long years Valley Center, Kansas hot shoe Larry McDaniels had held a strangle hold on the O’Reilly Auto Parts Topless Outlaw Racing Association presented by Morris Communications, but that streak came to an end at the end of the 2004 season as STEVE KOSISKI of Papillion, Nebraska became only the second champion in the series’ 4 year history. Kosiski is sponsored by Cen-Pe-Co Lubricants, Double D Hook n Go Containers, Omaha Drywall, and drives a Shaw-Rocket chassis with a Grove Automotive powerplant.

SANCTION NEWS & NOTES:

 

DIRT MotorSports, announced that it has appointed Danny Malasky as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the Company. Malasky is currently a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

 

The first season of NARA racing saw the series average 64 cars with Shannon Babb leading the way with three victories. Scott Bloomquist, Mike Jewell, Mike Marlar, Eddie Carrier, Jr and Rick Eckert would enter victory circle in NARA DirtCar Series competition in 2004. The wins by Jewell in the "Hoosier Dirt Classic" at Brownstown (IN) Speedway , Marlar in the "Hillbilly 100" at Tyler County (WV) Speedway and Carrier, Jr. at KC (OH) Raceway were all career high wins for those drivers.

 

Saturday November 13th the Pacific Coast Xtreme DirtCar Series held its end of the season banquet at the Monarch Hotel & Conference Center in Clackamas, Oregon. Jeremy Shank of Salem, Oregon was crowned the Series champion. He was presented with a new 2005 Rayburn chassis courtesy of CJ Rayburn Race Cars, a certificate for a new late model body fabricated and installed by Eyerly Racing Sales & Service located in Albany, Oregon. Goodyear presented the new champion with a crystal glass etched trophy and matching Goodyear racing jackets for both Jeremy and his father & car owner Mike Shank. PCXDC Series promoter Doug Walters also presented the Jeremy with a 1st place series plaque and first place point money.

 

The ROMCO Super Late Model Series will hit Texas like a tornado next season, having already received verbal commitments from four racetracks for its 2005 schedule, new series owner Terry Dickerson announced Friday. Dickerson’s company, Trackside Entertainment, purchased the ROMCO Super Late Model Series from Robert Mullins recently. Mullins directed the series for six years. Dickerson is negotiating with Houston Raceway Park, Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, TX, San Antonio Speedway and Corpus Christi Motor Speedway concerning dates on its 2005 schedule.

 

Officials and invited VIP’s will honor the champions and top point drivers of the UMP Stacker 2® Xtreme DirtCar Series, Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series and Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series Friday, December 10 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Mt. McKinley and Mt. Ranier Suites in downtown Indianapolis,IN. The gala affair will include a buffet dinner at 7:30p.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 8:30p.m. with over $500,000 in point fund money and prizes being awarded to the nearly 30 honorees. Announcements and tickets for the banquet and awards ceremony have been mailed to the honorees invited VIP’s.

 

RACE TRACK NEWS & NOTES:

 

The dates for the 2005 ICE BOWL at Talladega Short Track have been set for January 6,7,8,and 9.

 

Lakeville Speedway season tickets are now on sale at a reduced rate that will be available until January 31, 2005. The price for general admission season tickets are $150.00 and for the pits, the price is $325.00. Call the track office at 419 - 827 - 5205 to order. Lakeville Speedway's opening night is set for Friday, April 22, 2005 and the rest of the schedule will be released in the very near future.

 

Dixie Speedway will start its 2005 racing schedule with a practice session March 12 and the Spring Short Track Championships on March 19. The Woodstock track’s 36th season will officially open with a full racing program May 7. The entire 2005 schedule of events will be released January 15, 2005. Hesston Speedway will be returning to its roots next season. After a special for the super late models last season, that was deemed very successful, and following the requests of many drivers and fans, the division will return full time for the first time since the track re-opened 14-years ago.

 

Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, AZ has decided to run Late Models in conjunction with their big modified Wild Turkey Shootout races. The late models will race on Sat 27 Nov and Sun 28 Nov. Races start at 1 PM. Each day will be separate shows each paying $2000 to win and $200 to start. One time entry fee is $100. Simple rules Hoosier D55 spec tires all 4 corners, 8 " spoiler, 2300 lbs after race with driver. Bob Jones resigned his general management position at Williams Grove Speedway. Jones informed speedway and amusement owner/promoter Morgan Hughes of his choice two days after the track had its end-of-season banquet. No replacement for the position was immediately announced. Jones has been active in motorsports management since 1968. He’s worked with several individuals over the years including the late Jack Gunn. Williams Grove Speedway will open its 2005 season on February 27.

 

NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver and former USAC champion Tony Stewart has purchased Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio from legendary owner Earl Baltes.

 

Speedway officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway are proud to announce that Goddard Performance Parts of Knoxville, Tennessee, through their Warrior Racecars division, will continue their chassis contingency sponsorship for the 2005 season. For the past three seasons Warrior Racecars has awarded the track champion in The Thurston Spring Super Late Models a new Warrior Chassis. Along with the free chassis for the champion, Warrior has also offered a special rolling chassis deal to the next driver in the point’s standings.

 

Lakeside Speedway would also like to announce that it has no plans of dropping its affiliation with Nascar. In 2005, Lakeside Speedway will be under the Nascar Weekly Racing Series Presented By Dodge Banner.

 

The Juniata County Agricultural Society has completed reorganization for the 2004-2005 season. President Tom Little will again lead the organization. Little enjoyed a successful year directing the Juniata County Fair and Port Royal Speedway. All Directors whose terms were up were returned to their positions for another term. Officers in the organization remained the same with one exception. Sue Pontius of Millerstown, has been elected second Vice President. Joining Little and Pontius as officers are Bill Ritzman, (first Vice President), Marian Mark, (Secretary), and Mark Book, (Treasurer). Tim Foltz will remain as Concession Secretary.

At the WISSOTA Promoters Association¹s 2004 national awards banquet on Saturday, Deer Creek Speedway was named the newest WISSOTA Track of the Year. The Queensland family, which operates Deer Creek Speedway, was on hand to accept the award after also attending the two-day WISSOTA annual meeting leading up to the banquet. Randy Queensland, who was elected to the WISSOTA board of directors on Saturday was joined on stage by his wife, Debbie, to accept the award along with their three sons, Justin, Cole and Ryan, and Ryan’s wife Susie.

INDUSTRY NEWS & NOTES:

 

Retired Knoxville Nationals and Chili Bowl Announcer Jack Miller had Carotid Artery Surgery, Tuesday, November 16th at Veterans Hospital in Tampa, FL. The Surgery was successful and he was discharged from the Hospital, today, Thursday, November 18, 2004. He is in some pain and tired but Louise says he is resting comfortably at home. Get well cards will reach Jack at 12712 Silver Dollar Dr. Odessa, FL 33556. Unfortunately you will not hear his great announcing at the 2005 Chili Bowl Nationals as when this surgery heals he must have some eye surgery which will cause him to miss the 2005 Chili Bowl. Keep Jack in your prayers.
