New Touring Series to compete at San Antonio Speedway's Texas Stock Car Spectacular

Texas Asphalt Limited Modified Series making its debut appearance

SAN ANTONIO, TX (August 9, 2013) - The Texas Stock Car Spectacular is one of the oldest, continuously run asphalt racing events in Texas. This well-known event actually started on the quarter-mile track in Corpus Christi and then spent a majority of the past few years at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, TX.

This year, San Antonio Speedway (SAS) will host the 17th Annual Texas Stock Car Spectacular on September 6 and 7. This high-banked, high speed, half-mile facility will certainly make this event bigger and faster than ever. Adding to the excitement at this year's Spectacular will be the track's debut of a new touring series, the Texas Asphalt Limited Modified Series (TALMS).

This year is the inaugural season of the TALMS series, which currently competes at Corpus Christi Speedway (Corpus Christi, TX) and Central Texas Speedway, (Kyle, TX). With two of the four inaugural season events already completed, the TALMS has created quite a buzz around the state.

The TALMS series is based on SportMod style rules that cross over between dirt and asphalt venues, and the series has made a major push to get "dirt track regulars" to race on pavement.

Chris Saathoff, who is the Technical Director at San Antonio Speedway, is excited about having this new series as part of the racing action at the Spectacular.

"After seeing the TALMS race at Central Texas Speedway (Kyle, TX) a couple of weeks ago, we thought that it was time to bring such a quality show to our track to share with our fans," commented Saathoff. "We know they will enjoy the tight competition among this talented group of drivers."

Cody Beddoe, who is the TALMS founder, knows first-hand about the challenges that the teams will face when racing at SAS.

"This is a challenge for both the series and our racers," said Beddoe. "In the interest of safety and performance, we are mandating that some changes be made to the cars. I race this type of car, so there is no change that I would implement that I wouldn't be willing to change on my own car."

Beddoe continued to explain the reason for adding the race at SAS. "After the momentum we (TALMS) carried from the last race at CTS (Central Texas Speedway), I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring our cars to a track like SAS or an event like the Texas Stock Car Spectacular," added Beddoe."

The series will run a tiered-style purse at SAS. This means that the purse will be based on the number of cars that show up to race at the event. The feature race payout tier structure is as follows:

Tier 1: 12-15 cars - $850 to win

Tier 2: 16-20 cars - $1,000 to win

Tier 3: 20 cars or more - $1,250 to win

In addition to the Texas Asphalt Limited Modifieds Series, six other classes of racing will be featured at the Texas Stock Car Spectacular at San Antonio Speedway on September 6 & 7 - including the Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Trucks, Street Stocks, Tator Plumbing Chargers and Grand Stocks.
