CAM Racing
* Points will be released later throughout the upcoming week! THE FOUR HORSEMEN HAUNT TEXANA By Aaron Ort 10/9 Texana Raceway, the area’s 5/16th mile dirt oval, welcomed the several hundred motor sport enthusiasts with an action packed night of high-revving, high-flying, crash and bash short track racing! The north wind blew in a load of excitement as the week’s prior weather looked to end in what has become too much of a common experience at the dirt jewel, a rainout event! Yet, the sun began to shine early through the weekend and provided the race teams with one of the most challenging track surfaces yet to be seen! The four horsemen of Brooks, Davis, Jordan, and Konvicka haunted their respective divisions with repeat checkered flags as the four drivers won all of their races, obtaining a "Flag Trick!" With only one more night of points racing left in the 2004 race season, several of the track champions are yet to be crowned, moments of the excitement yet to be speculated! Swapping lead changes in the Bomber division was Inez’s #34 Michael Harp and Cuero’s #4 Kurt Hudgeons as the two drivers shared checkered titles with Hudgeons edging Harp in the Texas Pursuit with Harp claiming top honors in the Heat and Feature races. Harp took home the silver behind Hudgeons in the Pursuit race with Hudgeons doing the same in the Feature! Victoria’s #81 Michael Wagner finished the evening with a second in the Heat and third in the Feature with Cuero’s #88 Sandra Hudgeons taking a Pursuit third and following in a Feature fourth. Edna’s #45 Albert Harvey rounded out the Feature top five in fifth. For the second year in a row, #34 Michael Harp will finish the year crowned as the division champion as the Industrial High School freshman has accumulated enough points throughout the year to remain out of reach of his nearest competitor! Victoria’s #25 Brian Brooks is attempting to snap the point’s lead that #8 Scott Turner of Sheridan has held for most of the season as Brooks climbed 15 points closer, taking all three wins in the Street Stock division, obtaining the "Flag Trick!" Turner stuck on Brooks the entire time as he secured three seconds with third place going to #3 Pete Herrschaft of Inez in both the Pursuit and Feature races! The Feature field witnessed a two car pile-up occur in the start of corner one, taking two vehicles out of the hunt, leaving Edna’s #47 G.W. Hessong to follow his three colleagues in fourth. Louise’s #95 David Mann finished the evening in fifth. #3 Darryl Davis proved to be the man to beat in the Hot Stock Truck division as the Victoria native finished all three of his races in the top spot, claiming the second "Flag Trick" of the evening! Davis, who had a disappointing early exit in the prior race night because of mechanical problems, is attempting to make up some of the point’s difference between he and current point’s leader and defending champion #4 Sean Hansen of Ganado. Hansen sat in the back of the pack for the first two races, but came up to the second place position in the Feature to finish just lengths behind Davis! Telferner’s #17 Polly Copeland completed a good early showing with a second in the Heat and third in the Pursuit, but a late race flat tire took her to an early exit and Feature fifth! Luling’s #8 Neal Rogers tried to overcome his teammate cousin in the Pursuit, yet to no avail, had to settle for a second place finish with Inez’s #43 Bob Ort completing the evening ahead of Rogers in the Feature as the two drivers finished third and fourth, respectively. The Super Stock division rallied from a prior race absence early on, yet provided the audience with an early altercation in corner two as Danevang’s #8 Todd Kidwell and Edna’s #98 Ricky Zack found a electromagnetic connection, resulting in both vehicles having to load their mangled cars on the trailer to head home! The departure of the previous two left three race teams to vie for the checkered with current point’s leader, #55 Vince Kacir (Port Lavaca) leading the way in the Heat race as he took the checkered ahead of #12 Adam Perks of El Campo. The Feature race had Kacir, Perks, and Victoria’s #33 Jason Zarbock swap lead changes several times throughout the twenty-lap event with a race turning swap occurring half way into the race with Kacir losing control of his vehicle out of corner two and Zarbock piloting his way to the top spot! Zarbock was able to hold of the charge by Perks for the remaining laps to capture the win ahead of Perks in second and Kacir in third! The Clark Realty Group of Victoria’s Texana Classic Dwarf division once again brought out the numbers as nearly a dozen vehicles piloted their scaled-down versions to some of the tightest racing witnessed on the high banks! The Heat race was split into two races with Midfield’s #20 Greg Sexton and #9 Kevin Harvey of Palacios taking the wins with #13 Mike Christians (Bay City) and #24 Victor Vargas Jr. (Markham) securing second, respectively. The Texas Dash brought the field together for the first time in the evening with Harvey dominating the pack for another gold with Christians finding his way to his second second and #15 Gary Farris of Bay City taking third. The Feature race took out Sexton and Harvey with mechanical problems along with others as one by one, the Texana Classic Dwarfs drove through the ruff to find their diamond; Christians prevailed once again to take the Feature gold and secure his evening with checkered flag finish! West Columbia’s #85 Gary Hansen zipped across the finish line in second with Vargas tipping across in third. #74 Jil Whitley of Corpus Christi followed behind in fourth with Farris rounding out the top five in fifth. Another crowning moment occurred with #13 Mike Christians obtaining enough points throughout the season to be able to stay out of reach to take the 2004 division championship! The Texana Classic Dwarfs would like to thank Larry Clark and Debbie Hanselka for their support in this evening’s events. For the second consecutive time, Victoria’s #7 Rory Jordan dominated the Limited Late Model division for two wins and an obtainment of a "Flag Trick." Jordan did not get this one so easy though as #81 Lawrence West fought him for every lap in the Heat race to finish in a close second with #36 Vince Kacir (Port Lavaca) doing the same in the Feature. Lolita’s #93 Eric Neal took home a Feature third with #65 Buck McFarlin (Victoria) and West finishing in fourth and fifth. Goliad’s youngest racer #8 Matthew Konvicka took both wins in the Mini Stock division as he also took home a "Flag Trick" for the evening, obtaining enough of these coveted accomplishments to finish the season with enough points to be claimed the track champion! #69 Cody Tesch of Halletsville secured two seconds behind Konvicka with #27 XXXXX Teague (Port Lavaca) and #5 Jamie Reha of Victoria finishing in third and fourth in both the Heat and Feature races, respectively. Next scheduled race night at Texana Raceway will be Saturday, October 18 with the final night of points racing resuming. The final night will hold draw to double points, phone (361) 782 0200 for current events or any weather cancellations. Texana Raceway is located 2 miles East of Edna on Hwy. 111, left CR 412.
