Tight Points Make Beach Bash 100 Critical For Top Texas Super Racing Series Drivers

By Pat Mayberry

With only three races left in the 2004 championship points race for Texas Super Racing Series drivers, blood pressures will be high at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway on Saturday night, September 18th. The extremely tight points race has six of the top drivers in the series still in contention for the championship title.

Only eighty-two points separate the top six drivers in the two-year old series as they head for the Beach Bash 100. Thanks to a solid run at San Antonio Speedway last month, series point leader Mike Yale was able to open a slim margin of thirty-six points over Brad Hudak. One of Yale's two victories this year came at CCMS in the season opening race back in March. Yale was a contender in June until engine problems put him out early. Yale has shown on both trips this year to CCMS he can flex his muscles and should be up front again if he can avoid trouble.

Hudak (-36) has been hot over the last three races with a runner-up finish at CCMS in June, a July win in Houston and a top five at San Antonio in August. The streak of strong finishes has moved Hudak from sixth to second in the standings since June.

Lloyd Alexander (-45) fell to third in the championship chase after San Antonio, but still is within striking distance of the lead. Alexander led sixty-two laps at CCMS back in June and also led at SAS in August so he is getting close to victory lane.

Beau Bukowski (-50) has been snake bit at CCMS this season finishing out of the top ten on both trips. Brian Schild (-64) captured a top seven in the June race at CCMS. Jeff Pollard (-82) rounds out the top six point leaders and has a victory and a top nine finish in his two trips to CCMS this year.

Gates open at 6:00PM with qualifying begins at 7:15PM. Racing will start at 8:00PM. Please visit the series web page at www.manracingpromotions.com for more information on the Texas Super Racing Series.
