NickHolt Posted September 14, 2004 Report Share Posted September 14, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Thunder Hill Raceway, 512.262.1352 September 14, 2004 Bob Shelton Day and THR Games Championships set for this Saturday One of the most revered high school football coaches in the state of Texas will be the Grand Marshall at Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) this Saturday, Sept. 18.– and he’ll see some highly unusual competition Bob Shelton, who’s been the head coach at Hays Consolidated for 37 years and is a member of the Texas High School Hall of Honor, will join the THR staff and fans for the races and THR Games Championships on Sept. 18. The THR Games Championships events have been revealed. At 5:45 p.m., the six teams of two competitors each will compete in the Elimination Round of three events (The Bat Races/Egg Toss, the Sack Race and the Creeper/Cone Race). Each team will be timed for running all three events. The two top teams will then move on and compete (at intermission) in the three events listed above PLUS an eating contest. The winning team will take home the THR Games Championships prize pack, which includes two “Pocket Rocket” mini-motorcycles from JJ’s Pocket Rockets of Round Rock and two 2005 Season Passes to THR. Shelton’s Hays Rebels are currently 2-0 and are tied for first place in the District 16-5A standings. Shelton has been involved in the coaching community for 41 years. He has taken a team to the state finals one time (in 1996) and was named Class 4A Coach of the Year by the Associated Press in 1997. Two years ago, Shelton was named to the Hall of Honor. Shelton has won over 240 games as a head coach and his teams have won over 62 percent of their games. Any Hays ISD Administrator, Teacher or Student who displays a Hays ISD identification card at the front gate will get in for half price - six (6) dollars. The on-track racing schedule calls for the Allison Legacys, the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks, the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks and the THR Grand Stocks.
