Dishman Wins His First-Ever Texas Pro Sedan Feature

Jack Dishman of Devine won his first-ever Texas Pro Sedan (TPS) feature race Saturday night at San Antonio Speedway. Dishman, driving a Ford Mustang, set fast time (21.880 seconds) during time trials and led all 20 laps at the high-banked, half-mile paved oval.

Dishman grabbed the lead from outside pole-sitter and fellow Ford Mustang driver Randy Lee of Corpus Christi (21.930 seconds) at the drop of the green and was able to fend off Lee and four-time TPS champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan for the remainder of the event. Lee, the reigning TPS champion, stayed on Dishman’s bumper for the entire race while LaBarge made several unsuccessful attempts to get by Lee. Dishman took the checkered flag two car-lengths ahead of Lee while LaBarge nearly squeaked by Lee for second at the line.

Two serious crashes marred the event. On the 15th lap Joe Moloney of San Antonio spun coming off the second turn and slammed into the back straightaway retaining wall nearly head on. Moloney suffered a broken nose and his Honda sustained major front end damage. Moloney was treated and released from a local hospital. On the ensuing restart, Donnie Moore of Hutto spun exiting the fourth turn and crashed into the inside retaining wall. Thankfully, Moore walked away from the wreck but his VW Scirocco was destroyed. The race was red-flagged while the debris was cleared.

VW Scirocco driver Jamie Garner of San Antonio ran a very strong fourth, at one point getting under LaBarge to challenge for third. San Antonio’s Sergio Hexsel contended with the lead pack for most of the race, but broke a drive shaft in his VW Scirocco with two laps remaining. Hexsel was able to hold on to finish fifth.
