X275 CLASS ALL THE RAGE FOR XTREME MELTDOWN AT HOUSTON MOTORSPORTS PARK

Houston, TX (September 26, 2012) - There will be $5,000 on the line Saturday night, Oct. 6, at Houston Motorsports Park in the X275 class at Xtreme Meltdown. With the largest payout for the X275 class in Texas, HMP is set to welcome racers from across the south – Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma, as well as Dallas and Houston.

Racers will compete for big money in the X275 class at Xtreme Meltdown on Oct. 6 at HMP. Houston Motorsports Park photo.

“This should be the best night of drag racing we have had in a few years,” said John Mandabach, vice president and general manager of Houston Motorsports Park. “With upwards of 2,000 horsepower in the X275 and Outlaw 275 classes on stock suspensions and street legal tires anything can happen on a four second run.”

Racers in both classes will also be without wheelie bars, which means fans will be treated with huge wheelstands, and out of control, extreme side-by-side drag racing in the hottest and fastest growing heads up class in the United States.

The night, sponsored by Fiesta Mart, Northside Plumbing, Pipeline Express, Welding Outlets, TRE Racing Engines and Northside Chassis, will also feature Pro Mod and Index racing.

But the most excitement will come in the two X275 classes – where racers will run on regular 275/60/15 radial tires and big money will be awarded to the night's winner.

“Fans should not expect to use much other than the edge of their seat for these events,” Mandabach said. “We have packed the most extreme classes of head up drag racing into one event. Plus, we'll run it non-stop from start to finish, unless we have some crashes. Because all these cars run on the ragged edge of disaster, we never know what we will get, but one thing is for certain, it will be super exciting.”

This is the second event for the 275 classes, with Kyle Huettel winning in the X275 class and Trevor Stripling winning in the Outlaw 275 class. Other winners from that inaugural night for the 275 classes were Chris Domino (Pro Mod), A.D. Rigmaiden (5.80 Index) and Chris Hoekstra (7.00 Index).

Tickets are available for $15 at the track, with children 12 and under still free, as well as free parking. And, as always, there will be $1 hot dogs, $1 cokes and $1 beer.

Gates open at 3 p.m. Racing is set to begin at 6 p.m.

“This is the wildest thing to hit HMP drag racing in the history of HMP,” Mandabach said. “There is one more event scheduled for November 10th this year and Xtreme Meltdown will run once per month from March through November in 2013.”

HMP is a state of the art complex, situated in a park like setting inside Beltway 8, on the North-East side of Houston, only 20 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport.
