X275 CLASS TO MAKE DEBUT SATURDAY AT XTREME MELTDOWN AT HOUSTON MOTORSPORTS PARK

Houston, TX (September 5, 2012) - If you want some heart pounding excitement this weekend, then Houston Motorsports Park is where you need to be for Xtreme Meltdown. Saturday, Sept. 8, will be the debut of the X275 class, to go along with drag racing in the Outlaw 275 and Pro Mods, as well as 5.80 and 7.00 Index racing.

The X275 class, one of the hottest drag racing classes on the East Coast, will give fans the opportunity to see the most extreme drag racing there is. Racers in the class will be running street cars with stock suspension on 275/60 radial drag tires without the aid of a wheelie bar. Fans should expect to see extreme burnouts and extreme wheelstands during each pass down the fastest 1/8-mile drag strip in the South.

“Fans can expect to see stock appearing cars with huge amounts of horsepower on the edge and out of control,” said John Mandabach, vice president and general manager of Houston Motorsports Park. “With no wheelie bars permitted and all cars leaving the starting line at the same time, HMP expects anything from extreme wheelstands to wild, aggressive, side-by-side racing.”

This is the first of three Saturday nights, along with Oct. 6 and Nov. 10, that Houston Motorsports Park will feature racing in the X275 class in 2012, with a full season schedule planned for 2013.

Tickets are available for $15 at the track, with children 12 and under still free, as well as free parking. And, as always, there will be $1 hot dogs, $1 cokes and $1 beer. Gates open at 5 p.m. Racing is set to begin at 7 p.m.

“HMP brought X275 and Outlaw 275 racing to Houston because it builds on HMP's reputation for bringing exciting 100 percent heads up racing,” Mandabach said. “These classes originated on the East Coast and deliver some of the wildest side-by-side racing in drag racing today. We believe our fans and racers deserve only the best, most exciting and all heads up racing available anywhere in the country. These classes will deliver that in a big way.”

HMP is a state of the art complex, situated in a park like setting inside Beltway 8, on the North-East side of Houston, only 20 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport.
