Double features night at Houston Motorsports Park could shake things up in all three NASCAR classes

 

Houston, Texas (July 2, 2012) - For championship contenders in the NASCAR classes at Houston Motorsports Park, Saturday, July 7, will be key in winning the crown. Drivers will be battling for double the points on Double Features Night at HMP, where points leads can grow or change at the waive of the checkered flag, as no lead is safe in one of the most hotly contested races for the crown in the NASCAR Fiesta Modified, NASCAR BWFS 360 Trucks and NASCAR Pro Stock classes.

 

“If you want to win the championship this season, then you are going to want to be at your best on Saturday night,” said John Mandabach, vice president and general manager of Houston Motorsports Park. “Knowing that, fans should see some of the tightest racing we have had all season.”

 

In the headlining NASCAR Fiesta Modified class, Joe Aramendia has been able to build on the lead he took over after winning his first of six races – including both in the track's first double feature night of the season – in the second race of the season. But even though he has a 71-point lead over Brad Queen, that could all change on Saturday.

Mason Teague holds a 53-point lead on Jim Nides in the NASCAR BWFS 360 Truck class, but with a regular truck count in the mid-20s anything can happen. Especially, with former champion Cary Stapp lurking just 56 points back.

 

David Webster's lead over Nathan Demski is just 19 points in the NASCAR Stock Car class. And with the top 4 all within 37 points, anything can happen.

 

“Nights like Saturday will go a long way in deciding who will end up in the money this season, and who won't,” Mandabach said. “We have points funds in place that pay through the top 10 in two classes, and the the top 16 in the NASCAR BWFS 360 Truck class. You can bet that money will be won and lost on Saturday night. Nothing could make this night of racing any more exciting.”

 

Well, maybe just one thing. The fact that Aramendia will have a $2,000 bounty bonus on his head that any driver can collect, just by beating the No. 79 NASCAR Fiesta Modified to the checkered flag.

 

“Somebody is gonna get a nice bonus,” Mandabach said. “But, they will have to beat Joe first. And as we have seen, that has proven to be easier said then done. Joe is on a hot streak, but streaks are made to be broken And drivers will have two chances to break it on Saturday night.”

 

It will also be Ladies Night, where ladies get in for $1. Children 12 and under are free. And, as always, there will be $1 hot dogs, $1 cokes and $1 beer.

 

Racing is set to begin at 7 p.m.
