A Starr descends on Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle

Race fans across Texas will get a chance to meet and greet one of the state's "favorite sons" of racing - David Starr of Irving, driver of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (CTS) #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet - this Saturday (Aug. 21) at Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) in Kyle.

Starr, who finished second in last week's Toyota Tundra 200 in Nashville, will spend his only free weekend in August with the fans at THR, a 3/8-mile asphalt oval. Starr's second-place finish at Nashville pushed him into 10th place in points in the CTS. He now has one win, 4 top-5 finishes and 8 top-10 finishes on the 2004 season.

Starr will serve as THR's Grand Marshall for the night, and his appearance is being sponsored by David and Carol Bell of AMSOIL (dcbel.com) in Austin.

"We're thrilled to have David spend some time with the local race fans here at Thunder Hill," said THR Marketing/Media Director Chuck Licata. "I've gotten to know David over the past few years while covering him for our radio show (The Motorsports Zone on KVET-AM) and I can promise that he'll be very involved with the races and the fans on Saturday night. David's one of those all-around good guys who brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm anywhere he goes. We're honored he'd take time out of his busy schedule to visit us at THR."

Rebecca Cooper, CPA, a sponsor of both THR and The Motorsports Zone, has arranged for a charity raffle at the track on Saturday night. "Becky has some great items for the charity raffle," Licata said. "She's got NASCAR memorabilia from Dale Earnhardt Senior and Junior; she has a David Starr gift basket, a Jeff Burton gold-plated car, some free motorcycle safety lessons, a free massage, and much, much more." The prizes from the raffle are valued over $1,200. Proceeds from the raffle will go to the Thunder Hill Raceway drivers points fund; the Speedway Children's Charities; and to the Jon Garrett Fund, sponsored by members of the AllStar Race Trucks. There will also be David Starr merchandise on sale at the track. For more information on David Starr, please visit www.davidstarr.com.

Joining the AllStar Race Truck Series on the track Saturday night will be the A-Line Auto Parts Street Stocks; the THR Late Models; the Capital City Trade & Technical School Hobby Stocks; the Texas Dwarf Car Association; and the THR Grand Stocks class.

Thunder Hill Raceway is located at exit 210 (Yarrington Road exit) off North IH-35 in Kyle, 10 minutes north of San Marcos and 15 minutes south of Austin. Ticket prices are $12 for adults; $7 for kids 6-12; and kids under 6 get in free. The grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the racing program begins at 7 p.m. For more information, please call (512) 262-1352 or visit the track's new web site, www.thunderhillraceway.com.
