Bill LaBarge wins TPS Race at THR and takes Point Lead

By: Neil Upchurch, Texas Pro Sedans – Race Director

Kyle, Texas (August 7, 2004) - The Texas Pro Sedans touring series returned to Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday night, August 7th. It was their fifth of six appearances of the 2004 season at the 3/8 mile THR track. The Texas Pro Sedans Feature Race winner was five time TPS Champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan in his BMW. The Qualifying Heat Races were won by Bill LaBarge and Donnie Moore of Hutto. Moore was at the wheel of the George Merrell VW Scirocco.

The 20 lap Feature Race saw Bill LaBarge not only win his third race of the TPS season but slip ahead of Donnie Moore by one point for the Texas Pro Sedans Driving Championship. Moore started on the pole position and held the lead until third position starter Bryce Dishman in his Ford Mustang came into contact with Donnie Moore’s VW Scirocco in turn two of lap one. While both drivers regained control of their cars, Bill LaBarge seized the opportunity to forge into the lead which he never surrendered. The standings were quickly shuffled and Moore dropped back several positions while Dishman took over second place. Later in the race, Tony Johnson in his Ford Mustang, appropriated second place from Dishman, which he held for the remainder of the race. Johnson finished only 1.99 seconds behind race winner LaBarge. Bryce Dishman retained a third place finish. Donnie Moore completed the race in fourth place.

The 20 lap race was run “all green” without the need of a caution flag. Seven TPS drivers completed the race on the lead lap. Turning in very creditable performances were Jamie Garner in his 2001 VW Sedan in fifth. Two Corpus Christi drivers placed sixth and seventh. Jesse Sandoval in his Ford Pinto and “Rookie of the Year” Point Leader Ariel Arredondo in his Ford Probe.

The San Antonio based Texas Pro Sedans touring series is conducting its 29th consecutive year of four cylinder stock car racing in Texas and the southwest. The Thunder Hill Raceway event was the 10th race of the 2004 TPS season. Three races remain to be run during this years TPS series schedule.

The next Texas Pro Sedans race will be held on Saturday night, September 4 at C.C. Motor Speedway in Corpus Christi, Texas.
