Superkart racetrack at ABIA gets green light

On Thursday, the Austin City Council approved a lease agreement between Iron Rock Raceway and the Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

It'll allow Iron Rock to open its superkart track and country club early next year. Supercarts are small, fast racing vehicles that can go up to speeds of 130 mph. Think extreme go-karts.

Iron Rock Raceway will be one of the nation's first karting country clubs and first karting track to be located at an international airport.

The groups plan to release more details on Friday.

Freaking motorsports progress in the ATX...praise be...this is good for all of us in the long run...

Josh, I think your idea last week, which has been seconded by many here, to get them to use THR is a good one...that has not been on their radar...they first were intrested in the motorsports ranch type concept for thier little karts...while they weren't interested in THR as a primary, maybe they could hold an oval event or something...couldn't possibly be worse than a three car bandalero race at THR...

See, they didn't even have to pass a beer tax!

THOSE LITTLE CARTS HAUL A**............THEY RACED AT SAS LAST YEAR AND THEY WERE FLYING.............UNFORTUNATELY ONE GUY HIT THE FRONT WALL AND WAS HURT............IT WOULD BE COOL IF THEY LOOKED INTO BUILDING ONE OF THOSE TRACKS AT THE OLD AIR STRIP ON BROOKS AFB.............THAT WOULD BE A PERFECT PLACE FOR ONE OF THOSE KART TRACKS.......HOPEFULLY THEY COME BACK TO SAS AGAIN, THEY WERE ALOT MORE INTERESTING THAN THOSE INDY WANNABE CARS..........JMO
