NASKART Pro Racing Series at Thunderhill Raceway

Recommended Posts

The season is over for most series, but the NASKART Pro Racing Series powered by Royal Purple is about to have its final race of the 2011 season. So if you want to see 1 last race for 2011 at Thunderhill come out on November 5th and cheer on our racers! And maybe have some fun by driving a NASKART rental at OTX between practices, the heat race and our 27 lap Feature race!

With the points chase down to the wire and this last race deciding the 2011 Championship, it has come down to 2 drivers duking it out for the championship. #07 Megan Smith and #21 Jason Marshall.

Megan, after missing the first race of the season, came on strong in the first half of the season. She would win 4 of the first 10 races of the season and having 8 top 3 finishes in the 1st half of the season. Propelling her to the top of the points and looking like she was going to run away with the championship. But the, mid-season, the racing gods were not kind to her as her very fast motor expired in a exhibition race at the Firecracker 150. For the next several races, Megan struggled as others excelled but perservered until her motor man (her uncle, Butch Lake) was able to figure out what was wrong with the new motor and got her up to speed. Meanwhile, Lyndon Kirk, the 2009 Champion came was able to take over the points lead. But Megan was never more than a few points still out of first. Hanging by her early season points lead. Then winning again in the 1st of 2 races at the last HMP Race, bringing her wins to 5 for the season, and holding onto the current points lead by 2 points over Jason Marshall.

Jason did not started his season until the 3rd race of the 2011 series. Winning his first race out...but being DQ'ed by a TI for being underweight. But this did not discourage Jason and he began to run a string of 14 top 5's in 20 races. Including 4 wins along the way with a Double Victory at the first Double-Header at HMP in October. Jason has put his head down and focused on doing well each race and being rewarded for his consistency with the chance to win the 2011 championship. With 2 wins at Thunderhill this season he has a good chance of being the first driver in the NASKART Pro Racing Series to win a championship in his rookie year with the series.

Lyndon Kirk, The 2009 NASKART Pro Racing Series Champion, has won in several different karts this season. Showing that his setup skills can transfer from one kart to another. And with 6 wins this season, worked his magic to the top of the points chase during the season. Even winning 3 in a row at Thunderhill!! The second time, and only person, that Lyndon has done in the series and with the winner's weight at that! But this year also saw Lyndon start Pro Karts Distributors, which required lots of his time and forced him to miss out on the last Double-Header at HMP. Thus relinquishing the points lead to Megan and all but dropping him out of the championship hunt down to 3rd in the points, just 12 points out.

So, with all the scenarios that could play out this weekend in the final race, only 2 scenarios are a given. If Megan finishes anywhere in front of Jason Marshall at the end of the race, she will be crowned the 2011 champion. But if Jason wins the bonus point and the heat race, and wins the main, he will be crowned the 2011 champion.

Who it will be...know one knows. But it will be a dog fight to the finish for sure!!! So come on out Saturday, November 5th and cheer on all the NASKART Drivers!!!
