Thunder Hill Raceway announces second postseason race date

Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) announced a second postseason race date (Oct. 2) at a press conference held July 22 at the race track in Kyle. THR officials also gave an indication of the track’s progress for the 2004 season, citing increased attendance for the 2004 season.

A-Line Auto Parts, title sponsor of THR’s Street Stock class, will be the title sponsor for the Oct. 2 race date, which will feature Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks cars and will also include a 200-lap Enduro race (which starts at 4 p.m. that afternoon). The official title of the Street Stock race will be the A-Line Auto Parts/AC Delco 75.

The Enduro race winner will receive $1,500; the second-place finisher will get $750, and the third-place finisher will earn $350. The purses for all other races, including the Street Stocks race, will be announced at a later date.

“We’re happy to give race fans in Central Texas another big night of racing,” said THR Co-owner/GM Brian Callaway. “Our Street Stocks class has been a major part of our show at Thunder Hill, but we’re also working to figure out some rules so that street stocks from anywhere can run in this race. We’re going to do the same for all classes that run the races that night. We may bring in one or two more classes but nothing’s firm yet in that area.”

“First, let me say that we appreciate Kurt Filbert and the great folks at A-Line Auto Parts for stepping up and being a title sponsor for the Oct. 2 race date,” added THR Marketing/PR/Media Director Chuck Licata. “We’ve also lined up KPEZ-FM (Z-102.3) in Austin as an associate sponsor; Chris Cooley and the gang over there will be promoting the races all during the week then broadcast a couple of remotes from the track that night. There will also be a Celebrity Race during the intermission period.”

Licata added, “We’re still working on a few other details for that night – more sponsors, including another potential title sponsor, among other things – that we’ll announce once we get the details confirmed.”

THR officials also announced that attendance at the track is up 31% since May 5th of this season and 41% over last season. Reasons given included a season-long marketing and advertising campaign; television ads being run during many racing programs on several over-the-air and cable channels; and a major program to get THR involved in its local communities (including Kyle, San Marcos and Austin), with the biggest effort being Drivers Appearances.

Thunder Hill Raceway is a 3/8-mile paved oval race track that runs races every Saturday night from March through October. THR is located off IH-35 at exit 210 (Yarrington Road exit).
