Sunday's Race at Gulf Coast Kartway

Recommended Posts

The NASKART Pro Racing Series showed to GCKI on Sunday September 11th, After a controversial night at Thunderhill the night before. And ended up getting more than they bargained for!!!

The 5 drivers that showed up to race, Matt McDade #5, Megan Smith #07, Chris Terry #24, Jason Marshall #17 (Jason's Smitty Built motor had snapped a crank during practice at Thunderhill) and Mike Steinman #1 went out for qualifying on the 3/4 mile road course.

With Steinman #1 taking the pole. Jason Marshall 2nd, Megan Smith #07 3rd. But was DQ'ed for being underweight. So the grid was set with Steinman and Marshall on row 1, McDade and Kirk #24 (Kirk step into the #24 to take over the driving chores and protect his point lead.

But before the Pre-Final neighboring fields had caught on fire and and the track has to be evacuated! All the racers (about 100) and crews and their karts and trailers and motor homes had only 10 minutes to pack up and leave the track. Luckily everyone got out without any losses and track officials stayed at the track with the fire department and were able to contain the fire from destrying the track.

With this, the race day had been cancelled and will be re-scheduled on a later date. Texas in general is a tinderbox. And EVERYONE should take the extra precaution and due their part to make sure there is not anymore devestation in all of our communities.
