Texana Raceway Park Results

August 13, 2011

As the days countdown to the huge night planned for August 27th, Texana Raceway Park hosted what might be a slight preview for some of the racing action in the upcoming South Texas Street Stock Challenge and the Aaron Hudgeons Limited Modified Memorial Race.

The teen ministocks started up the feature action with seven competitors taking the green flag. Travis Manning and Ethan Hoover led the group to start the race. Soon after the race started Bryce Reed went to the lead with Manning and Travis Copeland in hot pursuit. Copeland was putting pressure on Manning until Manning's motor apparently let go. Meanwhile a couple of competitors dropped out and with laps winding down and Reed in the lead, it would be up to Hoover and Copeland to make a run at the front car. With two laps to go, Copeland looked to the inside of Reed and made a pass stick which secured the position for Copeland to go to the front and take his second win in as many events.

In Street Stock action, the group welcomed Anthony Gordon and Wade Jones in for some advance seat time before the big event on August 27th. Tony "Manard" Blankenship went to the early lead. With the track conditions changing within a matter laps, the competitors had to adjust their driving style. Lauren Chamberlain attempted a wall climb in 1&2, but was able to recover and continue the race. Brian King running behind the leader spun and a caution came out. This placed King at the rear of the field and would have appeared to take him out of the hunt. However, King regrouped and picked off cars for a 2nd place finish when the checkers flew. All the while Blankenship remained in front hitting his marks consistently each lap, while Wade Jones and Chris Shafer followed until King was back in the group. A good run by all as the competitors had to adjust each lap with the changing conditions and Manard took it to victory.

In Texana Classic Dwarf action, Greg Sexton Sr. took the early lead with Joseph Snow and Victor Vargas in 2nd and 3rd. Snow would eventually spin and be placed at the tail of the field and Vargas would fall to apparent mechanical trouble. Snow must have been taking notes from King in the Street Stock feature race, as Snow would not throw in the towel. After being placed to the rear, Snow would slice and dice his way back to the front to finish in 2nd. As always with the Texana Classic Dwarfs, there was racing action throughout the field with several good races going on. Also, notable was Greg Sexton Jr., who would have one of his best showings to end up in 3rd. At the end, Sexton Sr. would take with win with over a straight away advantage.

In Limited Modified action, 22 showed to race for the night and 21 made the call to the feature. The race started a little rocky with two consecutive pile ups in Turns 1&2 at the start of the race in mid field. But the third time was the charm. Dustin Butcher went to the lead and never looked back. With a few green laps clocked, David Meredith had moved to 2nd position with Vince Louden on his bumper. Notable in the race was Mickey Helms who started at the back of the field and worked his way up to 4th in the end. The race did experience multiple cautions, but there was competitive action throughout the field. In a group with healthy competition, there were multiple races to follow within the race. Rolly Rodriguez who started 14th would work his way up as well to finish 2nd. Nevertheless, Butcher led the race from green to checker nailing his corner entries lap after lap and never missing his mark. It was obvious Butcher made the long haul from Corpus Christi prepared with his set up right on the mark.

An early collision with Justin Bloom and Bob Ort started the Hot Stock Truck action. Both were able to continue. Kevin Durham had the definite right set up as he made each lap look effortless taking an early lead and cruising to victory with a comfortable margin over Jason Bloom. Also, making a showing in the #76 was Johnny Thomas who worked during the feature and made a last lap pass headed to the checkers over Ort to secure 3rd.

While the count might be small, the action is still noteworthy in the modifieds. Nick Hardcastle and Jesse Manning had a bumper to bumper show with Manning looking to Hardcastle's inside, outside and everywhere else attempting to pass. Hardcastle would have the preferred line each lap and hold on to the lead to take the win
