The King Rules, The Snowman Ices the Field, and The Racers Friend Hits a Home Run

Texana Raceway Park Results

June 30, 2011

Having dodged the potential threats of Tropical Storm Don, Texana Raceway Park was ready for some racing action

In mini-stock action, a good group of competitors were on hand. In the feature, the field would see several competitors turning up the heat on the track and on the temperature gauge in the car. Bryce Reed and Travis Manning were working the front and a solid showing by newcomer Hannah Wright was noteworthy as well laying down numerous solid laps in her first full TRP feature run. But, possibly to a several folks surprise was young Travis Copeland laying down solid laps and taking over the lead. Once Copeland was in the lead, he never looked back and started stretching it out. Copeland took his Mustang to victory lane for his first TRP feature win.

In Street Stocks, Brian King ruled the kingdom on a dry-slick tricky track against a stout field of cars. Garrett Hayes started on the pole with King on the outside. Hayes took the initial lead, but within a couple of laps, King took over. There was plenty of racing action during this feature, with several good side by side battles throughout with lots of solid driving. Once in the lead, King secured his preferred low line, but Hayes never threw in the towel. The field saw a couple of restarts but King would remain strong on each. At the checker, King took the win followed by Hayes.

When the Texana Classic Dwarf Cars rolled out, the chargers were spread throughout the field. Jopseph Snow took the early lead. The Snowman planted his Army car down on the low line and Greg Sexton began applying pressure using the high line. While the two front runners were distancing themselves from the field, a close and solid battle for third position between Gary Faris, Frank Fruia, Mike Christians and Brad Wright was ensuing. The third place contenders ran nose to tail and side by side for numerous laps until Fruia was sidelined with mechanical issues. Meanwhile the Snowman remained consistent and Sexton was not able to make the high line launch himself strong enough to pull off a full pass. In the end, it was Joseph Snow with the victory

A sizable field rolled out for the Limited Modified feature. With the number of cars combined with the tricky track, it was anticipated to be a race filled with a few cautions. Nope, that was not the case as the talented field went from start to finish, green all the way. Mickey “the racers friend” Helms started on the pole with the points leader Jensen Pray on his outside. Helms went to the early lead. As Helms took off, exciting action in the next two rows was unfolding for several laps with Vince Louden running side by side with Pray and David Meredith running side by side with GW Hessong in the next row. After a few laps as the field sorted out, Pray got the 2nd position. And a solid contender in Jarrett Barber started maneuvering his way through the field to get into the front group action. Rolling along, Helms was committed to the high line and Prey started working the low line. As each lap passed Prey was inching closer to Helms. Eventually Pray was able to move past Helms slightly in the turns, but Helms would launch out quick on exit having the low line. The pair put on an incredible show for everyone for several laps. It came down to the last lap and while it was close, Helms was able to use the launch out of the high side on turn 4 one last time to win the race by just about a car length over Pray.

With the Hot Stock Trucks, it was the Brothers Bloom up on the front. Justin Bloom launched to the lead and Bob Ort was able to put together one of his better runs this year to secure 2nd. As J. Bloom clicked away at the laps, he had his truck working smooth through the turns and not hammering the throttle. Bloom was smooth and Ort laid down some solid laps as well using his patented low line.

A small but fast modified field put on two races for the fans. Jesse Manning and Nick Hardcastle in the front two competed lap after lap, but even closer competition was in the second two with Jason Lewis and Jamie Campbell. Lewis and Campbell were nose to tail and side by side for basically the entire race.

In Late Models, two competitors were on hand and it was 36 Randy Kacir at the checker with 84B Justin Bloom in 2nd.

With a regular race night in two weeks, the one month countdown has begun for the Aaron Hudgeons Memorial Limited Mod Race combined with the visit of the South Texas Street Stock Shootout on August 27th. The Limited Mods will be running for a minimum of $2,500 to win with a notable payout down the line for A-Main starters. The Street Stocks will have a stout field from across central and South Texas with competitors dueling for series points.
