Results – 5/21/11

It is the return of TRP Race Summaries and Results. Summaries will be more condensed than in the past, but we intend to post the full results each event. A special thank you to Chelle for writing down each feature's results and the drivers.

May 21st was the night for the annual Spectator Races. A chance for fans to run their street legal cars in a one on one elimination pairing down to one winner. One lap in first round, two laps in the second round and the final pairing consisted of five laps. A total of six competitors entered and in the end it was Ty Roses as the winner in his hemi powered new Dodge Charger.

Fourteen of the exciting Texana Classic Dwarfs entered the feature. Victor Vargas went to the early lead and had to hold off challenges from several hot shoes placing pressure such as Greg Sexton, Gary Faris, Frank Fruia and Joseph Snow. Vargas maintained his lead through the entire feature. Sexton and Snow both had to exit the race at different points due to apparent mechanical issues. Vargas held off all challenges for the feature win and then celebrated in the infield.

Brian “Grasshopper” King proved that he has figured out how to pass a fast car and then hold his position. At the start of the Street Stock feature, Tony Blankenship took the lead. But, in just a few laps, King was pressuring and pulled off a nice pass on the inside. From that point forward Blankenship maintained pressure on King, but the young King never flinched. This night demonstrated a stout field with the top seven seeming to maintain the same distance apart from each other during the entire feature.

Limited Modifieds saw Shiner’s Vince Louden on the pole, with Victoria’s Mickey Helms on the outside. Louden was ultimately passed by Jensen Pray and Helms exited with apparent mechanical problems. GW Hessong muscled his way up to 2nd after a spin and being placed to the rear and then Wade Moyer moved up to Hessong’s bumper. But all the while with the action behind him was points leader Pray hitting his marks and cruising forward to take the win.

Earlier in the evening before the races commenced, the Bloom family were the featured drivers. This consisted of dad Russell Bloom, and sons Jason Bloom and Justin Bloom. It appeared that the dad told the sons they had a responsibility to put on a show for the fans and that is just what the sons did. Justin took the early lead in the Hot Stock Truck Feature, but younger brother Jason decided he wanted so share in some of the glory, so near the half way point in the race, Jason made the pass and held on to the lead for the remainder of the feature to take the win at the checkers.

In Modified action it was Jessee Manning and Rory Jordon battling it out to the lead. Manning got the early lead and then decided he would set the track on fire. Both Jordon and Manning are USMTS competitors when events visit the gulf south and on this night they were very fast. But, Manning had what appeared to be the perfect set up combined with the perfect power. He set the track on fire hitting his marks lap after lap and took the win.
