Special treat during intermission will be Box Car Races for kids 12 and under. In this event, young race fans get to bring cardboard box cars they’ve created out on the track and race down the front stretch. There are two main rules for the event.

The first Box Car Race of the 2011 season will take place this Friday at GTRP. Ron Skinner photo.

1. All contestants MUST wear lace-up tennis shoes and socks to be eligible for prizes. Sorry, no exceptions!

2. Each child MUST have one pit crew member to assist with a mid-race pit stop. If they have no one to serve as a pit crew member the track officials will provide one. During the mid-race pit stop, the pit crew member will be responsible for a tire change. Tires in this race are the shoes and socks on each racer. They will remove the shoes and socks from the racer’s feet and then replace them before they can continue to the finish line. Shades of NASCAR. Lots of fun and prizes! See the track web site for more photos.

Golden Triangle Raceway is located on W. Hwy. 90 between Beaumont and China, Texas. For more information about the races, rules, or up-coming events log on to www.gtrpbmt.com or call 409-752-7200. GTRP is always the place for family fun and action packed entertainment.
