I first met Blackie when he raced at Playland Park in the late 50's.My Dad raced against him at Playland Park. I was 5 years old at that time. After the races I'd go to the pits and Blackie would always let me sit in his car.There was alot of good drivers at Playland but Blackie was always my favorite.My Dad would get upset that Blackie was my favorite and not him. My Mother even made me a black T-Shirt with a picture of a modified with Blackie's car number on it.I didn't know him away from the track,but when I was in the pits after the races he always made me feel special.I guess you could say he was my first hero in racing.May God bless his family and friends.I'm sure that wreck at Playland that killed a few people was always on his mind after the wreck.
