Pinkerton garners Dart Iron Man Challenge glory in Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa, Iowa (September 20, 2010) – Former track champion Brad Pinkerton climbed back behind the wheel of a USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car at the Southern Iowa Speedway for the first time in two years Monday night, and he didn’t miss a beat.

The New Sharon, Iowa, racer has captured track championships at the “Mahaska County Monster” in both the USRA RHS Modified and USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car divisions, as well as a two-time back-to-back champion of the $10,000-to-win Great American Stock Car Challenge in 2004-05.

On Monday night, he added a hard fought victory in the tough-as-nails Dart Iron Man Challenge main event, holding off title hopefuls Nathan Wood and Mike Van Genderen in the process.

Todd Inman led the first lap of the feature race but gave up the top spot to Jason Minnehan on lap 2. Minnehan’s reign was short-lived, however, as Inman raced back to the point on the fourth lap.

As the leaders came to the flagstand to complete lap 5, Pinkerton edged Inman for the lead and never looked back as he paced the final 15 laps to take the win.

Brothers Mark and Greg Elliott finished fourth and fifth in Monday night’s 20-lapper, followed by Mitch Hovden, Rich Gregoire, Jim Mitchell, Mike Mauer and Ryan Leeman.

While Pinkerton went home with the $600 top prize driving Wood’s spare race car, Wood’s runner-up finish allowed him to surpass Van Genderen by three points in the championship standings with just one race remaining to decide it all.

In other action, Wood held off Dan Hovden to win the USRA Hobby Stock feature while Cayden Carter captured the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod main event.

The final event of the 2010 campaign for the Dart Iron Man Challenge will take place on Tuesday night, Sept. 21, at the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa.

The event was originally slated for Sept. 2, but was postponed by rain.

Van Genderen captured the first of his three ‘Iron Man’ victories this season at the Butler County Fairgrounds half-mile dirt oval on May 27.

Also on the racing card will be the USMTS Modifieds and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods racing for national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series. Gates open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 6:30 and racing starts at 7 p.m.

The Highway 3 Raceway is located 0.3 miles north of SR 3 on S. Main St. (at the Butler County Fairgrounds). For more information, call 319-267-9977 or check out www.highway3raceway.com online.
