Chevrolet Street Cruise to open Super Chevy Show weekend in Houston

Baytown, Texas (August 4, 2010) -- Houston Raceway Park hasn't hosted a Super Chevy Show in five years. But when the national touring series, which is celebrating its 30th season, returns to Southern Texas, it will do so in style.

HRP officials announced this week that it will kick off the Houston Super Chevy Show presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts and Ron Craft Chevrolet, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11 - Sunday, Sept. 12, with the Chevy Street Cruise that will parade through the heart of Baytown to Houston Raceway Park.

The cruise, which is expected to feature some of the best-looking classic and contemporary Chevy cars in the region, will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 at the Ron Craft Chevrolet dealership. It will feature police escorts and make its way through Baytown and arrive at HRP, where all participants will earn a Fast Pass into the track and to the car staging area.

HRP is topping off the event by awarding one lucky Chevy Street Cruise participant with a free four-day Caribbean cruise package from Carnival Cruise Lines. Various other door prizes with awards will be handed out from Ron Craft Chevrolet, including $500 in Exxon Mobile gas cards, a set of GM chrome nerf-bars, two Chevy truck bedliners, two sets of his and her Chevy watches, gift cards to O'Reilly Auto Parts and much more.

"We could not think of a more appropriate way to launch the return of the Super Chevy Show to Houston Raceway Park than to kick off our weekend with this Chevy Street Cruise," said Seth Angel, HRP general manager. "I can only imagine what a parade of Chevy's traveling in unison down Texas Avenue in downtown Baytown's Historic District will look like. Get your cameras ready is all we can say because this will definitely be one of those Kodak moments."

Registration for the Street Cruise is from 8-9:15 a.m., and will include a complimentary breakfast. The cruise is open to all Chevy bodied or powered automobiles, and General Motors cars, including Saab, Saturn, Hummer and Cadillac. All participants must enter Saturday's Car Show, Car Corral or Show N' Shine.

The winner of the Carnival Cruise package will be announced in the Tower Club during the car show awards ceremony.

Also, Super Chevy Magazine editors will be on site to provide coverage for the Street Cruise, with highlights to appear on superchevyshow.com and Super Chevy Magazine. Previous car show cruises at Super Chevy Show events this season were big hits, including the season-opening race in Las Vegas.

There will be more fun during the Houston Super Chevy Show, which will feature the popular car show and car corral, along with sportsman and pro show drag racing all weekend long. Sunday's action will include an autocross, where racers will take to a road course and compete against the clock.

"The return of the Super Chevy Show to Houston Raceway Park is shaping up to be a spectacular weekend," said Angel, "and just like the Chevy Street Cruise, the whole Super Chevy weekend experience at Houston Raceway Park will be an unforgettable one."

SEPTEMBER 10-12, 2010

Houston Raceway Park to give away Carnival Cruise at Super Chevy Street Cruise

BAYTOWN, Texas (Sept. 9) - Houston Raceway Park's five-year wait is nearly over.

It's been half a decade since the drag racing facility has hosted the Super Chevy Show, a streak that ends this weekend when the national touring series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, returns to Southern Texas for a two-day event on Saturday and Sunday.

The Houston Super Chevy Show presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts and Ron Craft Chevrolet is expected to be a fun-filled happening with a variety of events scheduled over the weekend.

It starts Saturday morning with the Chevy Street Cruise. The parade will begin from Ron Craft Chevrolet at 9 a.m. and trek through Baytown before arriving at Houston Raceway Park in grand style

The track is giving away a Carnival Cruise Line four-day Caribbean Cruise to one lucky participant of the Chevy Street Cruise. Various other door prizes will also be available, including $500 in Exxon Mobile gas cards, a set of GM chrome nerf bars, two Chevy truck bedliners, two sets of his and her Chevy watches, O'Reilly Auto Parts gift cards and much more.

"We want to reward the people participating in the street cruise Saturday morning, so we are giving away a trip on a Carnival Cruise ship," said Seth Angel, HRP general manager. "If we have 50-100 participants in the street cruise from Ron Craft Chevrolet over to the track Saturday morning, your odds of winning are pretty good."

The show will also feature three classes of sportsman drag racing; a first-class car show, including the new non-judged Bowtie Boulevard; Revell's Make-N-Take model-building program for kids; an autocross; a swap meet featuring several vendors and thanks to C.U.N.D.N Racing of Pearland, Texas, a portable dynamometer that will be available to all participants.

The Bowtie Boulevard, formerly known as Show-N-Shine, provides Chevy car and truck owners the opportunity to display their automobiles in the show lot at each of the remaining events on the Super Chevy Show 30th Anniversary tour. The cost is $35 per entry, and will provide each driver the same access of a full event ticket at a $5 savings.

The Revell Make-N-Take program gives kids the opportunity to enjoy the same thrill as their car enthusiasts parents by putting together snap-on car kits with help from expert model builders. The program will be held from noon-2 p.m. both days of the event in the newly constructed Tower Club.

The autocross, which has become popular at other Super Chevy Show events this season, is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. It offers single runs over a road-type course, with competitors racing against the clock.

C.U.N.D.N. Racing's portable dynamometer will be available near the Manufacturers Midway both days of the event. Participants will be able to measure the rear wheel horsepower and rear wheel torque of their automobiles. It will also record various engine parameters, including air fuel ratio of each participating vehicle. It was also produce a simulated quarter-mile printout. It's anticipated that each test will take approximately 20 minutes.

The Manufacturers Midway will be lined with several vendors, including O’Reilly Auto Parts, Ron Craft Chevrolet, Original Parts Group, GM Performance Division, Super Chevy Magazine, Featherlite Trailers, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil, Green Mountain Monogram, Minnesota Pneumatic, Metro Moulded Parts, John’s Trim Shop and Arctic Cat.

Bob Hall's Wheelstander will make appearances both days. A burnout contest is also scheduled for Sunday.
