We didn't see any basketballs, nets or a mascot dressed as a coyote, but we did see Robert Barker, Justin Oates, Greg Rohmer and James Lee slam-dunk their competition at San Antonio Speedway last Saturday night.

Michael Lampton, Robert Barker, Wesley McGuffin, Jason Smith, James Cole and Danny Garcia were the top six starters for the late model main event. When the green flag waved, Robert Barker jumped into the lead. With eight laps complete, James Cole and Larry Bendele got together on the backstretch bringing out the red flag. This knocked both drivers out of contention due to very lengthy pit stops for repairs. The restart saw Barker leading with Garcia, Smith, Lampton and Jesse Salazar next in line. Things went smoothly until two quick yellows came out with less than ten laps remaining - one for Smith spinning out and the other for debris on the track. With five laps remaining, Barker and Garcia were showing the way when McGuffin lost a wheel and hit the turn 4 wall very hard. Three laps later there was yet another yellow flag when Salazar and Smith tangled. The driver in total control on this night was Robert Barker, leading from start to finish. Garcia, Smith, Jesse Salazar and Lampton filled out the top five.

In the Sportsman main event, Vince Trietch and Rodney Rodriguez led the field to the green flag followed by Craig Crawley, Garfield Shanklin, Robert Mayberry and Justin Oates. Trietch took the early lead. Contact between Tom Reynolds and Dwayne Markgraf brought out the yellow flag on lap five. Trietch was still leading followed by Crawley, Mayberry, Oates and Shanklin. On lap eight, Oates powered his Camaro into the top spot. Marcus Bellino who started in the 11th position, was steadily making his way to the front and at the half-way point of the race, he was running second to Oates. As the laps wound down, these two battled it out. Justin Oates hung on for the win with Bellino, Tater Mason, Trietch and Mayberry next to cross the line.

Seven drivers hit the track for the Road Runners main event. Greg Rohmer started on the pole followed by Randy Frautschi, Irish O'Leary, Charles Earnhardt and Jason Kelly. These racers minded their manners and went the distance without any yellow flags. Greg Rohmer was the first to see the checkered flag followed by Jason Kelly, O'Leary and Frautschi.

Making their first visit this year, the Allison Lonestar Legacy cars were set to go 25 laps for their main event. The starting grid had Scott McCrum, Wayne Stokely, Tom Harwell and Gary Poole up front. Brandon Kelley and John Riley tangled on the first lap bringing out the red flag. When racing resumed, Stokely and Poole took turns leading. The always stout James Lee zipped thru traffic and took the lead on lap 5. There were three additional yellow flags for minor spins before the checkered flag flew. It was James Lee smiling in winner's circle followed by Poole, Stokely, Kelley and (13 year old) Kyle Sirizzotti. Congratulations to all of our winners!

I don't know who's who in this series but was watching from turn 3. It had been going on for a couple of laps then down the back stretch they were both trying to knock each other off the track til they finally wrecked each other about 100 ft before turn 3.
