NickHolt
For some who don't recognize the name, Raymond Parks - known to many as the "Godfather of Stock Car Racing" - teamed with driver Red Byron to win the inaugural modified championship in 1948 followed by the first “strictly stock” — the forerunner to today's Cup Series — in 1949. I was five at the time. By all accounts he was instrumental in the creation of NASCAR and was a participant in the historic "founding" meeting at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach. In addition he helped finance many races as well as the fledgling NASCAR organization in its early years. Nick
