Won't get bad till the 2 different temp's hit one another , then its on baby. Usually a 30 degree difference makes for one hellofa storm. But I'm hoping not. It looked so good last friday night, I pulled an all nighter and was race ready for sat. Now she just sits in the trailer, waiting, waiting for her chance to come out and play.

The Austin/San Antonio area could possibly miss the biggest part of the weather associated with the cold front. Reading between the lines of the NWS discussion below, the key idea is the timing of the maximum heating which will work against severe weather just as the front moves over central/south Texas. In other words, the heavy rain could die down before it gets to us sometime after midnight and then pick up again after 10a.m on Saturday, but by then the front may have passed on through.

So, at least there's a chance we can get to see some racing on Saturday night.

BUT.. look at the temperatures that we will be seeing on Saturday night and Sunday morning -- in the 40's!! Bring your blanket to the races this time..

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX

406 PM CDT FRI APR 30 2004

.DISCUSSION...

POTENT UPPER SYSTEM TO ACCOMPANY A STRONG COLD FRONT AND RESULT IN

ANOTHER FLASH FLOOD THREAT TONIGHT. A SEVERE THREAT IS ALSO A MINOR

CONCERN...BUT TIMING OF MAX HEATING WILL WORK AGAINST SEVERE

POTENTIAL.

AFTERNOON CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY HAS BEEN CONTROLLED BY A CAPPING

INVERSION WITH ONLY A FEW ATTEMPTS TO POP THROUGH FROM FORT

STOCKTON TO THE BURRO MOUNTAINS. THESE CELLS COULD POTENTIALLY

INTERFERE WITH THE LARGER THREAT BY ROLLING OFF HIGHER ELEVATIONS

TO ALTER STORM INFLOW. HOWEVER, THE BEST SCENARIO STILL LOOKS LIKE

THIS ACTIVITY WILL BE TO ISOLATED AND A WELL ORGANIZED SLOW MOVING

COMPLEX TAPPING INTO PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES OF 1.5 TO 1.7

INCHES AS IT MOVES INTO THE HILL COUNTRY LATE TONIGHT. THE THREAT

FOR SEVERE WILL BE GREATEST OVER THE HILL COUNTRY STARTING AROUND

MIDNIGHT AND PICKING UP AGAIN AFTER 10 AM OVER SOUTHEAST COUNTIES.

THE TORNADO THREAT WOULD MOST LIKELY BE MOST ENHANCED OVER THE

SOUTHEAST COUNTIES AROUND NOON TOMORROW IF AT ALL.

THE FLASH FLOOD THREAT IS MORE UNIFORM ACROSS THE AREA AS ALL AREAS

HAVE ONE-HOUR FF GUIDANCES AT OR BELOW 2 INCHES. TRAINING OF

THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE LEADING EDGE WILL BE THE PRIMARY CULPRIT.

THE SYSTEM WILL PROBABLY WEAKEN TO PRODUCE HALF INCH AREAL

PRECIPITATION AVERAGES OVER CENTRAL SECTIONS WITH ONE INCH

AVERAGES AND ISOLATED 3 INCH TOTALS OVER THE HILL COUNTRY TONIGHT AND

OVER SOUTHEASTERN COUNTIES DURING THE DAY SATURDAY.

BEHIND THIS STRONG SYSTEM A COUPLE DAYS OF COLD AIR ADVECTION WILL

THREATEN RECORD LOWS FOR MANY SPOTS SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY:

AUS SUN 49/1976 MON 49/1954 TUE 46/1978

ATT SUN 41/1925 MON 45/1929 TUE 42/1907

DRT SUN 49/1976 MON 45/1970 TUE 47/1954

SAT SUN 47/1976 MON 49/1970 TUE 44/1954

Will they call the race if it rains overnight and dies out before noon, or will they just dry off the track and let us go racing.

If San Antonio Speedway receives much rain over the next 12 hours, the parking lot will be unusable. I'm sure that will come into play as Mr. Sepich and Mr. Mullins make their decisions regarding tonight's races.

Well, this looks like an exercise in futility, but the plan is to load up at 5:30 and head towards San Antonio. It's raining here right now. Any news yet?
