Sooner Roundup rescheduled to April 3-4

CLINTON, Okla. (March 19) – The last blast of winter has postponed the Sooner Roundup special to what will hopefully be a more spring-like weekend in April.

Wild West Speedway officials announced this morning that forecasts for 4-8 inches of snow in Clinton on Saturday, as well as 10 inches or more further north in Oklahoma, forced rescheduling of the IMCA sanctioned event from March 20-21 to Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4.

An open practice session is now planned for Friday, April 2 from 6-11 p.m. No change has been made in the respective race cards, which still see the two IMCA SportMod classes on the same programs for the first time.

Southwest Racing Specialties Southern SportMods race for $350 to win on Saturday and for $1,000 in their regional event on Sunday. Top checks for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are $250 on opening night and $400 on Sunday.

IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks run for $250 to win on Saturday and for $300 on Sunday. Trophies go to top four finishers in the first night feature for Mach-1 Sport Compacts while the Sunday winner earns $100.

Southern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts are newly sanctioned at Wild West this season and all applicable IMCA points will be awarded. National points will be given for both Northern SportMod events.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, sign-in ends and the grandstand opens at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, gates will open at 11 a.m., sign-in ends and the grandstand opens at 2 p.m., and racing gets underway at 3 p.m.

A $25 track registration fee will be charged to each car and pit passes are $25 each day. Grandstand admission will be $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12, with youngsters five and under getting in free.
