Former Sprint Racer Sean Jones Leaves Cowtown With $3500 In Weekend Opener

by Darin Short

Sean Jones took the lead in the Topless 100 with around 10 laps to go, then took the lead midway in the Topless Limited Modified 40 lap feature to clean up at Cowtown Speedway to the tune of $3,500 as the rain delayed conclusion of the Cowtown Sprint Nationals from October finished tonight on November 12th.

A great turnout of fans were treated to 'Fan Appreciation Night' and the rare Thursday night show kicked off promptly at 7pm and all 210 laps of feature races were completed by 9:15pm.

Friday November 13th is the opening night of the $86,000 November Sprint Shootout presented by City Vending and the ASCS2 Series Finale presented by Eagle Chassis. Well over 200 cars will be on hand from as far away as Washington, California, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado and all points in between.

Hot laps start early on Friday, at 5:30pm, with racing at 6. Triple 25 lap features for the sprint cars highlight the night with full qualifying in the modifieds, limited modifieds, Winged Outlaw Multi's and Non-Winged 600's.

The Friday night show will also reward the first 1300 fans with free event tickets to the upcoming Texas Winter Nationals at Houston Raceway on December 4th and 5th; a value of $30 each.

Saturday's championship event at Cowtown fires off with hot laps at 3:30pm and racing at 4. $7,000 awaits the winner of the 35-lap sprint feature, with $2,000 going to the winners of the modified, Winged Outlaw Multi's and Non-Winged 600s; while $1500 will go to the limited modified winner.

Thursday notes continued...

-410 touring sprint driver Sam Hafertepe Jr. qualified well up in the Topless 100 order and ran in the top four of the feature race until a lapped car crossed the track right in front of him and another car causing a collision relegating Hafertepe to rejoin the field in 15th, which also coincided with the mandatory red flag on around lap 55. Hafertepe would then pick off cars on the fast 1/4 mile track and would battle all the way up to 3rd place runner Tom Lorenz (owner of Smiley's Racing) but would slide off the track on the last corner to finish 4th. Fellow sprint driver George White would recover from an shredding a RR tire early in the event to come home in the 5th.

-In the Winged 600's 30-lap championships, normally when the sprint drivers invade their big races, the 600 drivers don't have any problem holding their own. In a rare sprint regular 1-2 run away, 2009 ASCS regional sprint champion Aaron Reutzel was five laps from collecting the $1500 win when mechanical woes would end his brilliant run with Cowtown sprint regular Justin Melton taking the big win.
