2009 POINTS FOR THE NASKART CHAMPIONSHIP

Recommended Posts

As the season is winding down...the points are close!!! There are only 2 drivers with a mathematical chance of winning the championship at this point. Lyndon Kirk, the current points leader, and Chris Terry.

Chris will need to win the heat race at Houston and both races at Houston on October 31st and win the heat and the main at Houston on November 14th, and have Lyndon finish 10th or worse in the last 3 races in order to have a chance at winning the championship.

If Lyndon finishes 4th or better in just 1 of any of the 3 remaining races...He will be crowned the 2009 NASKART Series Champion!!!

If Lyndon finishes 4th in the next race and does not race the last 2, and Chris wins the remaining races and heat races...it would be a tie. But the tie breaker would go to Lyndon with 8 wins and Chris would finish out the season with 6 wins. Lyndon would be crowned the 2009 NASKART Series Champion!!!

For 2nd thru 4th place in the standings its very close and could come down to the last race of the season! Chris Terry, Mike Steinman & Richard Gonzales will have to wait and see how the last 3 races unfold, unless Chris Terry wins all 3 and then he will be our Runner-up in 2009. But its all still up in the air!!! As we know in racing anything can happen!!!

For 5th thru 10th place....its so close that only 8 points separates these guys from each other!!! Right now, Kevin Hummell is in the 5th position with 209 points but with 5 other guys right on his tail!!! Kaleb Kreis 206pts, Travis Roberts 205pts, Marty Kreis 204pts, Mike Hackett/Scott Authurs and other guest drivers in the #18 203pts, and Frank Mena with 201 points are all vying for that 5th place overall spot for the season!!! Its anybodys guess as to who will have the strong finish in these last 3 races and take the 5th place overall position!!!

Rookie of the Year honors has been a battle between Richard Gonzales and Kaleb Kreis! Richard with his consistent results, a win at Thunderhill and 4th in the points (235pts)....and Kaleb coming on strong thru the 2nd half of the season with back to back wins in Houston and Thunderhill bringing him up to 6th in the points (206pts) after a slow start to the season!!

Comeback Driver of the year looks to be Frank Mena!!! Frank missed the first 3 races of the season and had been out on the sidelines for a couple of years with bad circulation & blood clots in his legs!!! But he has been consistent this season and with a win at Red River has pulled himself into the top 10 in points (201pts) with a shot at even finishing 5th before the seasons over!

HARD LUCK driver of the year, so far, would definitely have to be Andy Taylor!! Racing in his first racing series ever with seasoned veterans and a huge learning curve, he has persevered through the season to date soaking up all the knowledge and savvy he can to make a full hearted effort on next years championship!! But with a great attitude and desire to run with the lead pack....he has shown in the last couple of races that he has what it takes to finish in the top 5 in a race....if not for some HARD LUCK!!!

And lets not forget how hard it is to compete with testosterone filled competitive men who hate to be beaten by a girl!!! Megan Smith has been racing HER heart out competing with the big boys and holding her own!!! She hasn't had the results she has wanted but tries hard none the less and always races with a awesome attitude!!! She was our Rookie of the Year last year but has not had the recognition she deserves for it til this year. She probably knows how Danica Patrick feels racing in a male dominant sport!

All in all it has been a great season to date with close racing, lots of drafting, lots of lead changes, photo finishes, drama and even controversy! Just Like any other racing series in america! Stay tuned to this forum to see how it all turns out!!

Another factor into this season's points is the bonus points from heat race wins and top qualifing. All the bonus points awarded so far this year have gone to 6 different drivers. These points can make a difference at the end of the season.

9 bonus points to #71 Mike Steinman

7 bonus points to #24 Chris Terry

3 bonus points to #5 Lyndon Kirk

3 bonus points to #12 Frank Mena

2 bonus points to #17 Richard Gonzales

1 bonus points to #29 Marty Kreis
