Texas Super Racing Series Opens

Sophomore Season at San Antonio Speedway

March 10, 2004

By: Pat Mayberry

Drivers competing in the Texas Super Racing Series are making final

adjustments to their hot-rods for the season opening race this Saturday

night, March 13th, at the famed high-banked, half-mile San Antonio Speedway.

Inaugural Texas Super Racing Series season points champion, Ronnie New, is

prepared to defend his position as top dog in the series, but will face

stiff competition from series regulars, Tommy Gural, Jeff Pollard, Mike Yale

and Brad Hudak.

Series Public Relations Director, Lisa Painter, recently announced that

twelve new drivers have joined the series and plan to compete for the Rookie

of the Year Award. The 2003 season saw sixty-four drivers compete in at

least one event during the Inaugural Texas Super Racing Series campaign.

During it's 2003 season, the Texas Super Racing Series averaged between 27

and 32 cars per race. "The series grew much faster than any of us could

have imagined," said series founder, Mary Ann Naumann. "With some of the

off season improvements that have been made, it is going to be an exciting

season in 2004."

One reason for the excitement is the addition of electronic scoring this

season. "Can you imagine scoring your first season starting off with the

car counts we had," mused Naumann. "We feel having the transponders for

scoring will take the series to a higher level. It will help the series

with re-aligning the cars quicker, giving race fans more green flag racing."

ROMCO Equipment Company is sponsoring the event that will include the ROMCO

Super Late Model Series, Texas Super Racing Series and Allstar Racetruck

Series. Tickets are only $20.00 general admission and $15.00 for seniors

and military. Children 10 to 16 are $10.00 and children 9 and under are

free. Gates open at 4:00PM with qualifying begins at 5:00PM. Racing will

start at 7:00PM. For more information on the Texas Super Racing Series,
