Big G Smith
The top NasKart Rookie, Richard Gonzalez, driving the #17 Smitty Built entry, was awarded the unwanted honor of the "Hard Luck Award." Richard, who was at the time 2nd in the NasKart points was poised to earn another top 2 or 3 finish and possibly the win at the Houston Motor Sports Park NasKart Race. The #17 was among the 5 or 6 Naskarts that were putting on a terrific show for the fans during the NasKart Main. Richard drove to the front and then was shuffled back to 5th . He was able to drive the #17 back up to 2nd and seemed to have the horse power to win the race. Then all of a sudden, he lost power comming out of turn 4 onto the front strech. The HMS announcers then gave him the the "Hard Luck Award." When the motor was inspected, it was discovered that a rocker arm stud had broken. Thats good news for Richard because the motor in the # 17 is very fast and has kept Richard among the front runners all season. This will be an easy fix and he will be back next race chalenging for a win again. NasKart hasn't seen a Rookie driver this far up in the standings since Driscal Stalworth won the 2007 NasKart Championship as a Rookie Driver.
