4 RACES.... 4 WINS FOR TEAM KIRK-N-STEIN!

Recommended Posts

After a Dominant start to the 2009 NASKART season by winning the first 3 races of the year, Team KIRK-N-STEIN's Lyndon Kirk#5 (The points Leader) was finally Knocked off the top step of the podium!!! But if he had to be beat...who better than his teammate Mike Steinman #71 to do the job and keep the team streak alive with 4 wins in a row!!! The night started off with a tough heat race with Team ROCKHARD Racing's Marty Kreis jumping out to the lead with his teammate Kevin Hummel #48 right on his bumper and the 2 trying to draft away....but it was not to be as the #17 SMITTY Built Racing's Richard Gonzalez hooked onto The #71 bumper and ran them down right away. Kevin Hummel's #48 drifted high thru turns 3 and 4 and allowed the #71 and the #17 to slip under and go in pursuit of the #29. On lap 3 of the 8-lap heat race, Richard Gonzalez got under Mike Steinman for 2nd place and the 2 battled for position for the next 2 laps. On lap 4, The #71 took the position back and then the 2 lined up in a draft to run down the #29 who was trying to run away. Marty was looking back on a few occasions for his teammates only to see these 2 karts running him down. On lap 5 the #71 and the #17 passed Marty Kreis putting the #71 into the lead til the end of the heat race for Mike Steinman's first Heat win of the season. But the racing was not over!!! ROCKHARD Racings #24 Chris Terry and the #48 of Kevin Hummell had hooked up and were running the leaders down!!! When they reached the #29 of Marty Kreis the three ROCKHARD Racing teammates trained passed SMITTY Built Racing's #17 of Richard Gonzalez and were in the process of running down the #71 when laps ran out! Making the starting order of the main with ROCKHARD Racings drivers starting 2nd, 3rd & 4th with the #17 starting 5th. Team KIRK-N-STEIN's Lyndon Kirk #5 starting on the outside of the 3rd row.

On the start of the 20-lap Feature race....Team KIRK-n-STEIN's Mike Steinman #71 jumped out to the lead pulling SMITTY Built Racing's Richard Gonzalez #17 along with him. Team ROCKHARD Racing's #24 Chris Terry and #29 Marty Kreis Lined up to make a run but the #17 was glued to the back of the #71 and the 2 slowly pulled away from the field. Fearing that Team ROCKHARD Racing would run them down, the #17 worked with the #71 til the competition Yellow flag came out. When the green flag flew...it was the #71 and the #17 drafting together with the #24 and #29 in tow!! With just 3 laps to go the #29 dropped off a little and Team KIRK-n-STEIN's Lyndon Kirk passed him for 4th trying to hang onto the draft of the #24 of Chris Terry. With just 3 to go...the #17 tried to make his move coming out of turn 4 but slid the back end just a little allowing the #71 to pull out a few kart lengths. The #17 tried to draft back up and make a move but Team KIRK-n-STEIN's #71 was strong and held the lead to the end...leading all 20 laps!!! 2nd was SMITTY Built Racing's Richard Gonzalez with Team ROCKHARD Racing's Chris Terry 3rd. Lyndon Kirk finished 4th, ahead of Marty Kreis, and continues to be the NASKART points leader.
