Big NasKart turnout for Thunder Hill Season Opener

Recommended Posts

The NasKarts group had a record turnout for the season opeing race at Thunder Hill Raceway last Saturday night.

We had 15 NasKarts and also a good showing of fans that paid to get into the pits for up close access to the teams, drivers and karts.

One of the Thiunder Hull officials brought a young fan down to sit in the #18 driven by Mike Hackett. Mike has A fan.

Lyndon Kirk resumed his winning ways by winning the feature race. Chris Terry, aka. the Oklahoma kid won the heat race and started on the pole. It looked like Chris had the race in hand and then a motor failure knocked him out of the race. Marty driving the #29 also had a fast kart and was running up front, but also had a motor problem that took him out of contention.

The surprise of the weekend was Rich Gonzalez. Rich was a driver recruited to drive an extra NasKart fot the 2009 season. (You may recall the post on this forum asking for drivers) Rich came in 2nd in his very first NasKart race, driving the Smitty Built prepaired, and Allen Robins owned entry #17. Rich will be driving the #17 for the 2009 season unless it is bought by someone. Like the #5 Lyndon Kirk entry, the #17 is powerd by the reliable and fast Smitty Built Motors.

James Matney showed up from Cold Springs, Texas with his championship winning NasKart he bought in the off season from Brian Kuempel. James was concerened that he didn't have enough track time under his belt and had Brian drive the kart for the feature. Brian came in 3rd and was in contention for the win during the entire race. James is going to get some practice time this week at Houston Motor Sports Park and then should be back at Thunder Hill for next weekends race. We look forward to him racing with the group.

Common out next Saturday Night, when the NasKarts will be rolling back to Thunder Hill for another of their trade mark "Xtream Xcitement" races.
