TPS Announces $1,000 to win - season's final race at RRS

The Texas Pro Sedans Series has announced $1,000 to win and a projected a purse of $6,100 if twenty-two cars start the TPS race on October 18 at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The San Antonio based four cylinder stock car series will complete their 2008 season and 33rd consecutive year of racing at the North Texas Asphalt Championships at Red River Speedway. The race will be TPS’s third trip to Wichita Falls during the 2008 season.

TPS Race & Administrative Director, Neil Upchurch credited the large purse to the new owners and management of Red River Speedway and several important sponsor postings from:

Red River Speedway, Mike Cooper, General Manager

Tom Lorenz, Hoosier Tires Southwest, Balch Springs, Texas

Richard and Bea Villanueva of San Antonio, Texas

Nelson Skinner, Attorney at Law, San Antonio, Texas

Chase Wright of Wichita Falls, Texas (a pitcher with the New York Yankees)

Texican’s Restaurant, Iowa Park, Texas

Scott Fortin, ATV World, Burkburnett, Texas

The race will determine the Texas Pro Sedans 2008 Championship. Going into the Red River Speedway event, Mike Merrell of Kingsland, Texas leads defending Champion Sergio Hexsel of Live Oak, Texas by 11 points for the 2008 TPS title. A total of 23 points can be won by the driver who scores a “clean sweep” on October 18th by earning all 3 pre-race bonus points, breaking the TPS track record of 15.279 seconds worth 3 points and then by winning the race and 17 points.

An extremely close 2008 “Rookie-of-the-Year” title chase is being contested between Lisa Sandoval of Corpus Christi and Bob Sherland from San Antonio. Only one point separates the two TPS “Rookies”. In third place is Josh Cournoyer of Wichita Falls. He has a mathematical chance of overtaking both Sandoval and Sherland for the title.

As of October 11, seventeen official entries and three provisional entries are on file with receipt of two provisional entries expected.
