Nick,

This is the obit for Johnny White's father. Johnny was the car owner for Joey Hienniman in his ROMCO starts. Mr. White was a pioneer in short track racing in the 50"s and 60's. He raced with , Monty Nichols, Al Yoemans ( Slick's father), Dub and Shorty Rollins, Shorty was NASCAR ROTY in 58 or 59. Mr White was a man that always had time to talk or give advice when asked.

Nick TSZ has become a great source of current events for those of us the have hung up our hats in racing, but still have that fire burning for competition. Yourself and Jason deserve a big pat on the back for all that you do.

Thanks Mark Shurbet

James E. (Jim) White,

James E. (Jim) White Jr., 80, went to the open arms of his savior, the Lord Jesus Christ at home on Tuesday, January 27, 2004. A piece of each of our hearts goes with him as he once again is united with his wife Esther Marie who passed away on August 23, 1995. One day, when each of us leaves this earth to be with the lord, our hearts will finally mend as we are united with our loved ones.

Jim is the son of the late Elzora White-Szewczuk and James E. White. He is preceded in death by this wife, mother, father, brother Bobby an longtime friend and brother-in-law Monty L. Nichols. He attended Corpus Christi High School and graduated from Floresville High School in 1943 and promptly enlisted in the Marine Corps to defend his Country in World War II. He was a proud veteran of World War II stationed in the Marshall Islands as a Gunnery Sergeant with a Marine Air Corps Fighter Squadron until the wars end. Jim developed a love for cars and "tuning" and became involved in building and racing stock cars with Monty Nichols locally in the late 1940's. They became partners and opened a garage at Shell Center named "Veterans Garage". Shortly, Jim and Monty married sisters Esther and Rowena Butler and began their families. He later was employed as a Body Shop Foreman for many years by McLains Paint and Body Shop, Lewis Bogg! us Ford, Tradewinds Ford and Ganains Chevrolet. He most recently was employed by Property Damage Appraisers. Jim was a member of Gardendale Baptist Church.

Jim was the devoted brother of Bert C. White (Jeane) of Sandia and Leona Cude of Medford, Oregon; the loving father of Johnny L. White (Rene) and Laina Snellgrove (Chuck) of Corpus Christi, Texas; the cherished grandfather of Wesley, Amy and Andrea; loving great grandfather of Charles, Ethan, Macy and Austin; beloved uncle to Rosharon Hickham, Monty Nichols II, Bill White and Bobby White.

Jim courage and spirit in the face of adversity, his unyielding drive to defeat his cancer inspired us all. When told he may not walk again, Jim was walking in four weeks with the aid of walker and went about his chores around the house and yard. In four more weeks he was walking without a cane....God truly exists! Jim's determination, morals, characters, love of life and his great love for his family will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 29, 2004. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 30, 2004 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with private entombment to follow.
