Schedule Adjustments

TRP

Recommended Posts

As covered in the 8/2/08 event, driver’s meeting, Texana Raceway Park (TRP) has made some schedule adjustments for a portion of the remaining 2008 season events. These changes were needed to accommodate the rescheduled and much anticipated ASCS Srpint Car Event, and to add some special attractions that have been requested by numerous people.

Following is a summary of the remaining 2008 event calendar with revisions. You can also view the updated schedule by going to www.texanaracewaypark.org and clicking on the “schedule” button:

8/16/08- No changes. All classes racing except Super Stocks that were already scheduled off. No special event at intermission.

8/30/08 - Labor Day Weekend… The ASCS Sprint Cars are coming to town! There are commitments from crowd pleasing names such as Rilat, Minter, and a host of others. This should be a great event as the ASCS nationals event was canceled for Labor Day weekend and it holds the potential to pull several more of the nationals drivers. The mini-stocks, Classic Dwarf, Hot Stock Trucks and Super Stocks are scheduled off. Running with the Sprints will be the Bombers, Limiteds, and Modifieds. Each of the three (bombers, limiteds and modifieds) will have at least an extra $1,000 added to their purse. Could be more before the event gets here. Who knows... B) At present, it will be $200 extra for the winner and $800 extra divided thru the rest of the feature starteds 2nd- back. The philosophy of dividing the purse in the manner has been a positive for all competitors whenever extra money has been added this year, so we see no reason to change it now...

This is a points event, so all regular fees for the driver / car apply (ie; $40 for driver and car in bombers, limiteds, and modifieds plus transponder rental). Other pit passes for other than car / driver and other than ASCS card holders will be $30 each on this night. Regular Texana Rules for bombers, limiteds, and modifieds will apply for this event. (bombers, be prepared to get some mud on your car as you’ll be the initial track packers for this sprint car event. But with the extra $1k in the purse you can afforda a little mud-off B) )

9/6/08 – All classes will be racing. Mini-stocks were previously scheduled off. But, they are added back on for this night. Also, we’ll have kids go-kart races at intermission and a demo-derby following the features. This will be a busy night so be on your toes and don't miss your heat or feature. We are going to move quick!

9/27/ 08 - We’ll have a couple of weeks off leading up to this so everyone can prepare for this event. This will be the final points night and it is double points. All classes except Super Stocks are running. By special request, we’ll also have powder puff and mechanics races following the feature. We’ll have a sign-in sheet for those. Also, if we have enough interest we will have a special Dads or Moms driving the mini-stocks in a special mini-stock only adult race with the dads or moms in the kids cars.

11/ 20/08 thru 11/22/08 - It is the highly anticipate three day tour of the USMTS first ever stop at TRP. The excitement is building for this fantastic three day event and it will be a show you won’t want to miss as a competitor or a spectator. Stay tuned thru October and November!

A lot of excitement ahead as we head into the home stretch.

Can we bring our minis down to run this race you speak of?

The adults in the mini's race that is referenced in this post is the dads or moms driving the kids cars at the end of the night along with the mechanics and powder puff events at the end of the night. The normal mini's heats and featurs are for 13 years old to 16 years old and that is firm for the normal races. This will be the last night of points and it is double points, so they won't let any adults out there then. On a side note, we have a very tight points battle for several of the positions.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with extra cars at the end of the night for this fun (dads or moms in the mini's) race if you want to haul a car down just for that. Will probably be something like 8 to 10 laps. Would you be interested in bringing a car down just for the fun race (no money paid back) at the end of the night? If yes, let me know and I'll run it up the line just to make sure.

Here's a little reading info on three of the ASCS Nationals drivers that are planning to come down for the August 30th ASCS Gulf South event at Texana Raceway Park. As a reminder, the nationals drivers do not normally compete in the ASCS Gulf South events as a matter of routine, but several have plans to follow the three day run on Labor Day Weekend with the nationals event cancelled. So, here's a little info on three of those nationals drivers that are planning to attend.

Jason Johnson - Hometown: Eunice, Louisiana. 28 ASCS National Tour feature wins before the start of the 2008 season. Current ASCS 2008 National Tour points leader. Most recent win was on 8/3/08 in Knoxville, Iowa, at the Brodix Tournament of Champions aka Knoxville Nationals with over 100 competitors. Jason is on top of his game right now, and we're very fortunate to have him planning to attend. Here's a link to the write up on the Knoxville win by Jason: http://www.ascsracing.com/racenotes.asp?ID=57842&yr=2008

Travis Rilat - Texas native. Former ASCS National Tour champion. 22 ASCS National Tour feature wins before the start of the 2008 season. A top contender at any ASCS event, keep an eye on the #29. Here's a link to Travis' bio onthe ASCS website: http://www.ascsracing.com/ascsdriverdetail.asp?id=368

Kathryne Minter - The 17 year old high school senior from Bedford, Texas who's a huge hit with the fans of all ages. Kathryne started off in mini-stocks racing at Grand Prairie Speedway just a few years ago, quickly moved up doing double duty for a very brief time in a Limited Modified and Sprint cars, primarily at Cowntown Speedway, but almost immediately decided to give full attention to the Sprint Car. This year she joined the ASCS National Tour. Here is a link to Kathryne's personal website: http://www.mint13.com/

Stay tuned... I'll post more info in the next several weeks on various other drivers planning to head into this event.

Is there going to be a non points race for bombers-STS purestocks like last year?

Bobby Jack

Bobby - At present, we don't have that planned. At the moment, we will be doing our last points night and then moving to planning for the USMTS event. But, if anything changes we'll post it and make some contacts. We do have the August 30th $450 to win and extra $800 divided iup thru the rest of the field if you could make it over for that.

thx - Monty
