TPS Returns to Red River Speedway JUNE 14

The Texas Pro Sedans (TPS) touring series returns to Red River Speedway (RRS) in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday night, June 14. The TPS race at RRS will mark the 2008 start of the second half of the Texas Pro Sedans 33rd consecutive season of four cylinder stock car racing in the southwest. The event is the second TPS 2008 season race at the RRS quarter mile, 13 degree banked asphalt track.

Texas Pro Sedans Series Race and Administrative Director, Neil Upchurch has announced an official paid, pre-entry list of 19 TPS drivers to date. Red River Speedway General Manager Mike Cooper said, “I am excited about having such fine field of Texas Pro Sedans coming back to our track to race on June 14. When TPS helped with the reopening of RRS on March 29th, our fans were treated to highly competitive racing”.

The Texas Pro Sedans racing program will consist of 2 laps of Qualifying Time Trials. The fastest TPS driver

will establish the Texas Pro Sedans qualifying track record at Red River Speedway. Two ten lap Qualifying

Heat Races will grid based upon the results from the Qualifying Time Trials. The finishing order in the

Qualifying Heat races will determine the starting grid for the TPS Feature Race.

The June 14th, 40 Lap TPS Feature Race will compete under Texas Pro Sedans rules and procedures in which yellow flag laps are not scored. The RRS transponder system will score all TPS competition. A green-white-checkered flag is required to officially finish a TPS race under full racing conditions.

Included in the official entry list are all of the drivers who have won TPS feature races during the first five races of the 2008 Texas Pro Sedans season:

Josh Cournoyer of Wichita Falls drove the Hank Cournoyer Ford Pinto into the RRS Winners Circle in March. It was the closest finish in 33 years of TPS racing. Cournoyer posted the win by a margin of only .016 seconds over Lalo Leal of Corpus Christi. Leal will return to RRS in his Ford Cobra.

On April 10, the second TPS season event saw Mike Merrell of Kingsland, Texas awarded the feature race win in a shortened race finish at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas. He drove the George Merrell VW Scirocco to his first TPS win.

Six time TPS Champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan has filed entry for his #27 BMW “Beamer”. He won the TPS Championship in 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2003 and 2004. No other driver has dominated the TPS series championship as has Bill LaBarge. LaBarge won the April 26 TPS race at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas.

The fourth race of the TPS series season was held at Thunderhill Raceway on May 10. The winner was Tom Johnson of Kingsland, Texas. Johnson will be at the wheel of his new #15 Ford Mustang.

The mid-season fifth race of the TPS tour was held at Thunderhill Raceway on May 31. The event saw the first season repeat winner Mike Merrell of Kingsland, Texas score his second career trip to victory circle. He set the fastest qualifying time, led all laps and drove the George Merrell #70 VW Scirocco to earn his second win.

The defending TPS Champion, Sergio Hexsel of Live Oak, Texas will again drive his #20 VW Rabbit. He won the TPS Championship in 2005 and 2007 TPS. Hexsel has placed second in the last three consecutive 2008 season TPS feature races.

In addition to the Texas Pro Sedans, a full racing program will feature all four RRS class races will also highlight the June 14th race night schedule at Red River Speedway.
