Aronson Motorsports Climbs The Learning Curve

Gremlins Plague Opening Race at San Antonio

Chillicothe, MO (April 9, 2008) - Reflecting a weekend of ups and downs at the IHRA season opener in San Antonio, Aronson Motorsports came away from the event with mixed results.

Cale Aronson was able to put his Jerry Haas-built Escort into the field on his final qualifying attempt. Although gremlins plagued the team through qualifying, they felt they had a very solid race car. In the first qualifying attempt, the car made an encouraging run, showing respectable short time numbers. Cale chose to lift, however, as the car drifted to the left and out of the groove.

Over the next two sessions, he would discover several glitches that compromised the car's performance in its inaugural appearance. For the final round of qualifying, he was able to put in a tune sufficient to secure entry into the field and make the show.

Aronson was looking to make a spectacular pass in Sunday's first round, after they found the problem that had plagued the team all weekend. Aronson explained: "We fully expected to run a mid to low 4-teen pass in first round, and Jerry Haas had given plenty of confidence in the car, not to mention the power it was making." As Aronson backed up from his burnout, however, it was clear that the Fast Race Gear-sponsored Escort was leaking fluid and he was forced to shut down. Aronson later found out that the engine diaper had loosened a drain in the side of the engine block.

"All in all, we had a good weekend, being able to qualify for our first national event. It was only my seventh run in the car when qualifying began. We overcame a lot through the qualifying rounds and I really appreciate all the help I received from Jerry Haas, Ram Clutches and Lenco Transmissions. I would like to give a special thanks to all of my sponsors who helped make the weekend a success. Fast Race Gear, Wheel Fixit, Winners Circle / Dura Lube, Liberty Pre-Owned Cars and Trucks, Jon Kaase Racing Engines and many more! Also, many thanks to all of the IHRA officials who made the weekend a great one!"

Aronson Motorsports now prepares for the next round of competition at the IHRA Spring Nationals presented by Advance Auto Parts and Castro Oil at Rockingham Dragway, April 18-20.

The Aronson Motorsports' Pro Stock Escort is sponsored by Fast Race Gear, Wheel Fixit, Liberty Pre-Owned Cars and Trucks, DuraLube / Winners Circle, Jon Kaase Racing Engines, Jerry Haas Race Cars, Ram Clutches, Lenco Transmissions and BS Racing Products.
