After competing in four of the ASA Late Model Series South events in 2006, Smith showed that this series is just what he and his family were looking for to take the next step in his racing career. Smith will compete with 5K Motorsports in their driver development program for 2008. “We were impressed with Cody’s performance with us last year. We are anxious to see what he can do in the very competitive ASALMS North division in 2008”stated Ken Wills 5K Motorsports owner. Smith who started racing as a young 14 year old in and around the San Antonio Texas area did some testing recently with 5K Motorsports including Tri County Speedway in Hudson North Carolina where he was very impressive. “The 5K Motorsports Team really prepares a great car every time we compete. The cars are always comfortable to drive from a set-up perspective” stated Smith “I can’t wait to get the season started at Toledo”! Also joining the 5K Driver Development Team as Cody Smith’s spotter will be veteran ASALMS competitor Charlie Menard. Menard contended right up to the closing laps at Oktoberfest – LaCrosse Wisconsin last year and is a valuable addition to the driver development program at 5K Motorsports. Smith will compete for the 2008 ASA Late Model Series North Division Rookie of the Year title. Pacecar Posted April 8, 2008 Report Share Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) WOW! Charlie Menard, the Chief Operations Officer of the Menard's Home Improvement Stores, will be Cody Smith's spotter! Charlie was always a smart racer. Won lots of local track championships and a Nascar regional champ. Won a big Super Late Model race in Lakeland a couple years ago. A definite plus for Cody Smith's racing career development. P.S. Chad... are you related to the multi-millionaires (Charlie and his cousin Paul Menard)? Maybe they'll let you take out a "Home Improvement Loan"! On second thought, maybe you're related to that Menard that appeared on American Idol.
