Local rivers set to join David Starr Day at Wholesale Nurseries

Three Texas race car drivers and a promotions from KVET-AM will join David Starr in the upcoming David Starr Day is presented by Wholesale Nurseries and Dani Promotions of Austin.

Starr, who drives the #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet truck in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series (CTS), will make an appearance at Wholesale Nurseries in Georgetown on Saturday, Dec. 13 from Noon to 4 p.m. Wholesale Nurseries is located about 8 miles from the F.M. 1431/Chandler Road exit off IH-35.

Jeff Pollard of Houston and Charles Buxton of Round Rock, both of whom ran in the Texas Super Racing Series in 2003, are scheduled to bring out their #17 and #77 cars, respectively, on Dec. 13 at Wholesale Nurseries. Also scheduled to appear with his #02 race car in tow is Doug Ayers of Pflugerville, who finished in a second-place tie for the Street Stock Points Championship at Thunder Hill Raceway in 2003. All three drivers are clients of Dani Promotions.

Also making an appearance at the event will be a promotions crew from KVET-AM 1300, The Zone, which is the all-sports radio station in Austin. Licata and Ric Clark host The Motorsports Zone on KVET-AM, which is the flagship station of the University of Texas athletics.

Starr, who missed four CTS races in the 2003 season due to an injury, still finished 13th in the CTS standings and earned over $305,000 while driving for Spears Manufacturing. He had claimed a 5th-place finish in the CTS standings in 2002. The Texan was pursued by Toyota and many other team representatives before committing to driving the #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for next season. In the same week that Starr committed to Spears, it was announced that Starr would drive the NASCAR Busch Grand National Car owned by Holigan Racing and sponsored by Lifekey Health Care, Inc. The Busch team will be featured each week in "The Reality of Speed," a 52-week reality show debuting on the Spike TV network.

There will be a charity raffle at the event, which will help raise funds for The Double Play Foundation in Austin as well as Speedway Children's Charities. Included in the raffle will be a certificate from The Team Texas High Performance Driving School at Texas Motor Speedway. There will be some door prizes given away at the event.

Dani Promotions has helped set up a special hotel rate for out-of-town visitors. Anyone needing that information can call Dani Promotions at (512) 736-8230.
