Plato named new director of IMCA’s South Central Region

SPRINGTOWN, Texas (Feb. 22) – Davey Plato will be on the job as IMCA’s new South Central Region director when the first green flag waves tonight for Abilene Speedway’s season-opening Ice Breaker special.

While making visits to tracks around the region, he’ll be the contact person for promoters, local tech officials and drivers, and help monitor contingency programs to ensure required decal usage.

“I want to continue developing consistency in rules, procedures and tech inspection throughout the region,” said Plato, whose family has operated Boyd Raceway since 1997. “The growth of the Southern SportMod division is going to require more attention as the rules develop and it’s also important to help the Stock Car division along as much as possible.”

“I like IMCA as a company and I like the people who work for them,” he added. “It seems like a natural fit for me.”

“Davey has considerable experience promoting weekly and special events, as well as working at events such as the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. He understands the importance of consistent, uniform

rules and their enforcement,” said Brett Root, vice president of operations for IMCA. “I know he’ll do a good job taking over for Tommy Simons as director of the South Central Region.”
