ARTS-Lonestar Awards and Recogntion Banquet a Big Success

Round Rock, Texas -- The posh Williamson Conference Center in Round Rock, Texas, was the scene of the All Star Race Truck Series – Lonestar Region Awards and Recognition Banquet, Saturday evening, November 15, 2003.

More than 80 racers, crew, sponsors and family members showed up for the buffet-style catered event where more $7,500 in cash and awards were handed out after dinner by Jon T. Garrett, ARTS-Lonestar Race Director and Promoter and Nick Holt of Texas Speed Zone.

Garrett, who also drives the #66 Chevy truck and finished second in the Lonestar Region points standings, had the honor of presenting the coveted D. Bruce Stark Memorial Award – awarded annually to the ARTS-Lonestar driver most exemplifying the true racing spirit – to Bud Carroll, driver of #18 ARTS Ford race truck.

Keith Patrick was named 2003 ARTS-Lonestar Sponsor of the Year and was presented a very nice plaque and a $400 gift certificate from Moe’s Custom Helmets. Patrick drives the #21 Chevy truck and finished a strong seventh in the final 2003 points standings. In making the presentation Garrett noted that several races would not have been possible but for Patrick’s generous support.

Series officials Dana Green, Bill and Cookie Jordan, Kristina Clegg and Chief Technical Inspector Curt Clegg received handsome plaques and a genuine round of applause for a job well done from those in attendance.

Newly crowned 2003 ARTS-Lonestar Champion Robert Walton was the big winner of the evening taking home a huge trophy in addition to a Rose City Racing Certificate for a set of Ferodo brake pads, a $200 gift certificate from Competition Cams, a $500 gift certificate from Speedway Bodies, a Hoosier Tire Regional Points Champion jacket and a sizable cash award from the Hoosier Tire points fund. Walton was the picture of consistency all season with 10 top-5 finishes out of 15 races. In addition, Walton won the 2003 Rookie of the Year award after a season-long battle for the honor with Bryan Meredith and Keith Patrick.
