NickHolt Posted October 1, 2003 Report Share Posted October 1, 2003 ARTS Point Race Tightens By Kelly Freeman October 1, 2003 The AllStar Race Truck Series points race for the Lone Star Region has tightened up a great deal over the last two events. Current points leader Robert Walton held almost a 100 point advantage a few weeks ago to now see his lead drop to only two points over 2nd place Jon T. Garrett, the defending champion of the Lone Star Region of ARTS. The most current tightening took place in this past weekends event at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas, during the 7th Annual Stock Car Spectacular special. Todd McLemore won the event and sits 11th in the points. Jon Garrett would finish 4th while Robert Walton was 9th, allowing Garrett to take a 27 point bite out of the advantage. In the previous event, two weeks earlier in Houston, Garrett finished four positions ahead of Walton letting him gain 18 points after the 48 point gain on September 6th in Kyle. Steve Green, currently 4th in the points, has also gained points in recent events. Green has closed within just 33 points of 3rd place Bryan Meredith. Meredith has finished four positions behind Green in each of the last two events allowing Green to make up 40 points. The other close battle in the points chase is between 5th place Bud Carroll and 6th place Jon Denham. Carroll holds only a 13 point advantage over Denham. Both have finished within just a few positions of the other in the last few events after Denham missed the August 30th event. The chase for the 2003 ARTS Championship continues this Saturday, October 4th, in San Antonio, Texas, at the high banked 1/2 mile San Antonio Speedway. The final weekend of racing in the 2003 ARTS season comes in Houston, Texas on October 25th where there will be a double feature event.
