William ‘Willie’ Palmer was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas in the 502nd MP Co. assigned to the Tiger Brigade, 2nd AD. He, an avid race fan, could have been seen in the pit area of the Speedway during the 1989 and 1990 Season’s. The Gulf War erupted and his unit was sent to Saudi Arabia at the end of the 1991 Season. The Tiger Brigade led the first US Forces into Kuwait on February 23, 1991. Two days later, Cpl. Palmer was killed when his vehicle hit an Iraqi landmine. Dan Corbin (Corbin & Associates, Attorneys), along with Texas Thunder Speedway, want to recognize Cpl. Palmer and ALL persons in our Armed Forces, which resulted in this Special Memorial Day Race. Requirement: In order to be eligible for this Contingency $$, you must have Willie Palmer’s name on your race car. Letters need to be at least 3” tall, your choice of color/style, must be neat, either painted or vinyl and MUST be seen from the Grandstands. NO magic markers or shoe polish allowed. All driver's in each class on May 26 race night will be eligible provided Willie Palmer's name is on their race car. The highest finishing driver in each class feature event that has Willie Palmer's name on their race car, will win contingency money. Contingency money donated by Corbin & Associates, Attorneys.
