Billy Stanteen passes

 

Known as "Bubba" to many in stock car racing, Billy Stanteen died on May 12, 2007.

 

Billy was a crewman on several super late model teams at San Antonio Speedway and the TIDA Late Model Series.

 

He was also a race official at the Texas Race of Champions at Texas World Speedway where he was a weight inspector.

 

Billy will be missed.

Following is the Obituary as it appeared in the San Antonio Express-News on May 15.

 

Billy Wayne Stanteen (Bubba) August 20, 1953 to May 12, 2007 Billy Wayne Stanteen (Bubba), 53, valiantly battled cancer for four years, endured numerous treatments, and never lost his positive outlook on life. He was employed with Hartford Insurance, enjoyed NASCAR, and was a life member of S.A.L.E. and the Welcoming Committee. Billy is preceded in death by his father, Marshall, father-in-law, Arthur Richardson, brother-in-law, Stanley Richardson, niece, Jennifer Kjos, and grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna, son, Billy Jr., mother, Thelma, mother-in-law, Althea Richardson, and siblings: Goldie Petri (Dave), Pam Lane (Rob), David (Wendy), Connie Ramirez (Richard), Delores Kjos (Joe), Patty Flores (Bob), Cathy Truiett (Leonard), Randy Richardson (Kathy) and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, May 15, at Schertz Funeral Home. Graveside Services & Interment will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Park with Reverend Don Guthrie officiating. Billy was a crew member on the Kelly Bros. Racing team for several years. You could always spot him wearing that big straw cowboy hat. Our prayers and best wishes to his family.

John,

 

Didn't Billy used to work on Tommy Grimes crew at one time also?

 

I recall him working the grain scales at TWS for at least a couple of TIDA events too.

 

Billy will be missed.
