txtom
When the cup boys take the green flag tomorrow, it will mark the 20th anniversary of Davey Allison's first win. Some of you will also remember this is the race that changed the way they race at Talladega and Daytona. Bobby Allison cut a tire going into the front tri-oval, went backward into the catch fence, and tore down a couple hundred feet of fence. Thankfully, he stayed on the track side of the wall. Imagine the ramifications if he had gone into the stands. This started the restrictor plate crap they deal with today.
tps48
I got that race on VHS. Red flag was so long it didnt record the finish. We watch some of the old videos during the winter to get a racing fix. My favorite is Cale coming from a lap down to win the 84 Daytona 500. First race with in-car camera, camera set up weighed 300 lbs.
