Jason
HOUSTON, TEXAS, September 10, 2003 – With only 4 weeks left until the 2003 Space City 125, both the event organizers and track management have begun preparations in earnest. The technical rules, event schedule and related information can be found on the Space City 125 web page (http://www.spacecity125.com). Houston Motorsports Park (formerly Houston Motor Speedway) track managers are working diligently to prepare the track for the speed and power these cars produce. The full size cars weight 3100 pounds, produce over 400 horsepower and travel through the 18-degree banking at speeds over 100 MPH. The track has spared no expense to ensure the safety and comfort of fans and competitors alike and because of this the facility has earned the reputation as the premiere facility of its type anywhere in the country. The concrete track provides the cars with a smooth, fast and safe surface that promotes side-by-side racing. Spectators can relax in one of several luxury suites or enjoy the racing action from the state of the art grandstands and experience the sights, sounds and excitement of Saturday night short track racing. The press and public are invited to visit the track on the morning of Saturday, September 13th, beginning at 10am to view the facility as well as several of the Space City 125 race cars that will be on display, weather permitting. The track is located to the northeast of the city at 11620 Lake Houston Parkway, phone 281.458.1972; driving directions can be found on web at www.houstonmotorsportspark.com. The Space City 125 is a late model stock car race scheduled for October 3rd and 4th at Houston Motorsports Park (formerly Houston Motor Speedway). The two-day event features a pit stop competition to determine the starting order for the 125-lap race. New for 2003 is the involvement of the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) and participation in the Texas Triple Crown which consists of races in Austin, Houston and San Antonio. The Texas Triple Crown provides a handsome reward for any driver and team that can win all three races. The Space City 125 is the second event in this special 3 race series that is sure to become legendary. The Space City 125 is the only event of it's kind in Texas with this unique format and it is expected to draw racing teams and race fans from across Texas as well as the surrounding states. More than 20 race teams and 3,700 fans attended the inaugural race in 2002 and 2003 is expected to be even bigger.
